Fleming notched their first win of the season with the annual homecoming game on the horizon. The Wildcats and Broncos battled Friday night in contest that would end with Fleming on top by just two points, 35-33. The Haxtun Lady Bulldogs may have had a slow 0-2 start in their first outing this season but they came back with a vengeance, picking up four wins on the road last week. The Fleming Lady Wildcats traveled to Sterling last weekend where they took part in the Northeastern Junior College Volleyball Tournament. The local squad swept their first two matches of the day before falling to the Merino Lady Rams in four sets. The Fleming Wildcats opened the 2024 football season with a trip to Dalton, Neb., on Friday where they fell to the Leyton Warriors. Leyton opened with a high-scoring first half, shutting out the visiting Wildcats, 32-0. The Wildcats put 14 points on the scoreboard throughout the second half while Leyton added another 10 to close with a 42-14 victory. The Bulldog football team kicked off the 2024 season in the exact same place the 2023 season ended ... in the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl.
