February 19, 2020
Ten members of the Haxtun FFA Chapter traveled to the Revere High School, where the District 16 speaking contest was held. The morning began with registration and opening ceremonies. After that, the contests began.
The quiz bowl team of Kristopher Hadeen, Michael Gerk and Kyle Fryrear began their day by taking a test that ranked them for the oral tournament. In the oral rounds, the team was asked questions about livestock, crops, farm business management and other ag related topics. The team won their first two rounds, which qualified them for the championship round. They lost the championship, making their final placing second and ranked in the gold category.
Grace Gibson and Brayden Clark competed in the FFA creed speaking contest. In this contest, competitors have to give the FFA creed and answer the judges' questions. Both Gibson and Clark placed in the bronze category.
Sage Nab and Brooklyn Plumb competed in the Prepared Speaking contest. For this contest, members have to prepare and give a six to eight minute speech on any ag topic. After the speech is given, the competitor has to answer any questions from the judges. Plumb placed second and in the gold category. Nab placed in the silver category.
This competition allowed members to develop their leadership and public speaking skills through competition and speaking.
