Wrestlers compete at State; Burr earns 5th place

SEDGWICK COUNTY-Fleming's 106-pound freshman Jack Bornhoft defeated Anthony Scanlon of Hotchkiss with a 15-0 tech fall during round one of the consolations.

Five members of the Sedgwick County–Fleming wrestling team competed in the CHSAA Colorado State Wrestling Tournament Feb. 20-22 and finished 14th as a team. They had three medal winners this year with Fabian Lopez bringing home the 195-pound State Championship Title, Hayden Burr winning the 126-pound fifth place medal and Marco Martinez winning the 113-pound sixth place medal.

SEDGWICK COUNTY-Fleming's 126-pound sophomore Hayden Burr defeated Cole Miller of Rye, 4-2, earning the fifth-place medal in his division.

106-pound freshman Jack Bornhoft finished his State Tournament at 1-2. Bornhoft lost his first match to Marion Vigil of Centauri by fall but, came back in the consolation round one match and defeated Anthony Scanlon of Hotchkiss with a 15-0 tech fall. He then met Trae Kennedy of Meeker in the second round of the consolations. Bornhoft fell to Kennedy, 15-0, and ended his hopes of medaling.

Sophomore Hayden Burr earned a fifth place finish at 126 pounds. He defeated Charles Curry of Meeker in the first round with a 5:05 fall. This win advanced Hayden to the quarterfinals against Cole Miller of Rye. He lost this match 6-0 and dropped to the consolation side of the bracket. Burr then defeated Keaton McCoy of Ignacio with a fall in 2:12 advancing to round three of the consolations where he met up with a familiar opponent from Yuma, Braden Smith. Burr defeated Smith with a 9-0 major decision and guaranted himself a spot on the podium. He then wrestled Dante Chiricingo of Highlan and lost this well-wrestled match, 6-4, advancing him to the fifth place match. Burr then again met up with Cole Miller of Rye only this time Burr beat Miller, 4-2, earning the fifth place medal in the 126-pound class.
