The Haxtun Harvest

It is the Silver Jubilee of the accession to the throngs of King George V and Queen Mary of the British Empire.

Fairfield News - Mrs. Severin of Greeley is here visiting with her daughters, Mrs. Rickard Roos and family.

Bryant News - Frank Freemyer had the misfortune to lose one of his good milk cows last week. Mrs. Frank Freemyer was fortunate enough to find a $20 bill in Haxtun Friday, but she also found the owner, which was fortunate for the owner.

Good Hope News - The Jolly Neighbors Club met with Mrs. Chas Adamson Thursday afternoon and elected officers: president, Mrs. Chas Adamson; vice president, Mrs. Louis Koch; secretary, Mrs. Emil Damrow; and assistant secretary, Mrs. Howard Moore. Also present were Mesdames Howard Moore, LeRoy Miller, Wil Smith, Robert Johnson and children, Fred Sharp, Geo Jones Jr., Lloyd Adamson, Fred Koch, Ted Sharp and daughter, and Miss Henninger.

Donations coupled with funds has allowed the Haxtun Hospital District to purchase several pieces of new equipment for the hospital as well as improve services offered there, resulting in a number of changes at the hospital.

Rhonda Renee Potter, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Potter of Haxtun will be participating in the 1980 Miss Colorado Teen Pageant to be held at the Regency, Denver, Colorado, Friday, May 16-18.

Brent T. Omen has been selected to receive the Colorado Energy Scholarship for the academic year beginning in the fall, 1980, through Spring, 1981. The Colorado Energy Research Institute will pay the tuition and non-elective fees for this period.


Four Haxtun residents and a Holyoke resident have qualified to compete in the state Special Olympics to b conducted May 18 and 19 in Colorado Springs. All attend the Sedgwick County Work Activity Center in Julesburg. Competitors from the area will include Jim Gruben, Wilma Gruben, Gary Kroeger, Linda Heller, all of Haxtun and Carolyn Sullivan of Holyoke.

Haxtun's mile relay team established a new state record Saturday in winning the event at the state track met. Members of that team are, Arlen Weers, Shelly Stansbury, Laurie Spelts and Linda Orth.

Eight members of the Haxtun's girls track team brought home the state trophy for Haxtun. They are, Lori Hill, Jody Haynes, Kelly Carper, Arlene Weers, Linda Orth, Laurie Spelts and Shelly Stansbury. They are coached by Van Liufau and Leith Lick.


Rockland News - An open house bridal shower is being planned for May 25 on Sunday evening for Christy Freemyer – bride-elect of Dale Briggs for an early June wedding.

Last weekend Larry Fisbeck and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Fisbeck of Fort Collins spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Leo Fisbeck ad Lennie.

Paoli News - Wayne and Mary Gibbs spent the weekend in Wichita, Kan. with their children, Chuck and Margie Eaton, Beth and Andrea. They were all guests of Shirley Fish and family for a cookout on Sunday evening.

The Haxtun-Fleming Herald

At a Monday meeting of the Fleming Town Council, Fern Scheel was presented with a plaque in recognition of her six years of service on the town council. Major Tom Gardiner complimented Scheel on her faithful performance of duties.


Marvin Fuesz was presented with a parting gift from the hospital employees at his retirement party. The stained-glass window was presented by Jim Brundige.

Toddlers Jordan Harms, Jordyn Turney, Preston Salvador, Callie Dickerson and Austin Beckner performed the tune with the aid of teacher, Teresa Davis at A Kid's Place Preschool program.

The Haxtun-Fleming Herald

On Monday, April 26 Gale Burmester visited the United States History and World History classes at Haxtun High School. He shared his Army experience while serving in Germany during the Cold War. Using maps of Germany Burmester taught the classes about the history of the Berlin Wall.


Laurie Koellner was one of 47 arrested by the Phillips County Relay for Life police on Wednesday, May 15 during the Lock Up A Cure For Cancer event. Community members were able to purchase arrest warrants for friends and family members during the fundraiser. Those arrested were taken to the Haxtun Town Hall and were required to post bail before being released.
