CREP Zoom conference to be held Thursday, June 25

Due to concerns about social distancing and the desire to get information to the public, the Colorado Farm Service Agency and the Republican River Water Conservation District will be co-hosting a virtual conference on the CREP beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 25.

During the 15-year CREP contract with FSA and the RRWCD, the well owner receives annual payments from both entities for the permanent retirement of well(s) used to irrigate the acres in the contract. In the first few years of the contract the land formerly irrigated is revegetated with native grasses. This land cannot be dryland farmed or grazed during the term of the CREP contract.

During the virtual conference, Ivy Reynolds, FSA County Executive Director and Woody Woods, FSA Colorado District 3 Director, will report on the FSA CREP program and will describe the requirements to be approved for a CREP contract.

Rod Lenz, RRWCD President and Deb Daniel, RRWCD General Manager, will give a presentation on the CREP supplemental contract the District offers. They will also report on the incentive payments offered to well owners located inside the South Fork Focus Zone.

To participate in the virtual meeting, go to the RRWCD website (republicanriver.com) and register to attend. You will receive the meeting invitation with all the information to participate in an email.

If you have any questions or concerns about attending the virtual meeting or if you would prefer attending face-to-face meetings, contact the RRWCD office (970) 332-3552. You can also contact your local FSA office for more information about the CREP program.
