ROSS THORNBURG is the new area supervisor for the Haxtun Telephone Co. based in Haxtun. Thornburg replaces Gerald Densmore, who recently retired from the company.

The Haxtun Harvest

Denver dailies received in Haxtun Monday carried the announcement of the decision of Western Sugar Company officials that construction of a new beet sugar factory to cost most more then $1,000,000 at Ovid-Sedgwick County, the official statement coming as the most significant step that has been made in Colorado agricultural and industrial activity within recent months.

Local News: Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Krueger entertained at a dinner bridge party on Thursday evening. The decorations used were yellow and white, yellow candles adorning the tables. Those enjoying the evening were Dr. and Mrs. Alcorn, Dr. and Mrs. Rugg, Mr. and Mrs. Willard and the host and hostess.

Daily News - H. C. Yost and wife, with some of the children are on a trip to Kansas for a short vacation.

South Country News - Bill Hackett is helping Harold Peterson repair his combine, getting ready to start cutting Sipple's wheat.

W. E. Daniels left this week for Sedgwick, where he has accepted a position as town clerk and will also be employed by the Public Service Company. Mr. Daniels has been employed in the mechanical department of the Jankovsky Company in Haxtun for the past six years.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Parish and family motored to Hoxie, Kansas last week, returning with Grandma Jackson, who will stay with them for a while.

North Country News - The Misses Sylvia and Della Ruth Anderson spent Saturday afternoon at the Roy Lundberg home.

Sunrise News - Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ahnstedt and daughters and son Laurence attended the Frontier Days celebration in Cheyenne Wyoming last week.

Bryant News - Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Salvador and family and Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Salvador and family were visitors at the Dick Salvador home Saturday evening.

O.K. Clark made a business trip to Fort Morgan last Friday. He was accompanied by Mrs. Grover Clark, who visited Miss Jan Coulter in that city.

Country and Western singer Moe Bandy and the Rodeo Clowns will provide the musical entertainment for the first night of Phillips County Fair.

A barbecue was hosted by the grooms mother Mrs. Ed White preceding the rehearsal Friday evening. Those attending were the honorees, Debbie Allen and William Stone, Virginia Greene, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Allen, Jim Yockey, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Brown, Bernita Allen, Vicki Johnson, Angila and Aaron, Darren Luft, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stone Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Ron Slattery, Ethal Klee, Dave and Joy, and Donna White.

Miss Christy Hellman of Cheyenne, Wyoming was the inspiration for a recent open house bridal shower at the Ross Frank home south of Dailey. Guests dropped in during the afternoon hours and were served party refreshments as they visited with Miss Hellman.

Clarkville and Wages News - Delana Schmidt stayed with her grandmother, Mabel Schmidt, on Sunday and Monday while her folks, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Schmidt, took Dan and Delana to Fort Collins for band camp.

Family members went to Haxtun on Sunday for the baptism of little Anne McCall of Eckley and a picnic in the park following. Those attending besides her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dave McCall, and sister, Carrie, were her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Mark McCall and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Korf, and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Dermer and family of Sterling, Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Korf, David Korf, and some friends of the McCall's from Greeley.

On July 2, Pastor Mike Bergman led worship services for the first time at Haxtun Methodist Church. Two days previously he and his wife Karen, and daughters Rachel 10, and Sarahm 4 arrived in Haxtun. Haxtun is Bergmans fifth appointment since he graduated from the Iliff School of Theology in Denver, in 1986. His minster began with a student pastorate in LeRoy, followed by churches in Fruita, Fowler/Manzanta, Price, Utah.

William Heerman became Haxtun's first ever Future Business Leaders of America national officer when he was elected to the office of Mountain Plains Region vice president on July 11.

Calls for Lemonade, 25 cents rand loud and clear as three cousins Amanda 13, and Shanna Kesterson 11, Eagle, and Kaylene Cox, 10, Haxtun, found a way to profit from the heat on July 16. They were out again on July 27. Kayleen is the daughter of Kenneth and Melinda Cox.

Sharing the trophy on Monday morning, members of the Haxtun Little League baseball team took time to gather at the home of teammate Kyle Goodwin to show him their first-place trophy for this season's league play. Kyle played the first two games of the season before he was diagnosed with leukemia. He was home for a few days visit, and is scheduled to return to Children's Hospital I Denver for his third round of chemotherapy net week.

Residents of the Haxtun Hospital District Extended Care Unit, Eleanor Phillips, Milton Schlueter, Marjorie Westover, ad Phil Edwards, were treated to dishes of ice cream after a barbeque mal at the Phillips County Fair on July 30.

A remodel is in progress at Haxtun Schools to accommodate new, more secure entrances to the building. There will also be a new elementary school office that will allow visual access of the outside entrance. All remodeling and changes are expected to be complete by the time school starts on Aug. 23.

Elise Atkins received the following during this year's Phillips County Fair: Grand Champion Foods Overall; Grand Champion Specialty Foods, Reserve Grand Champion 4-H Heritage Arts; Grand Champion Gardening; Overall Sheep Rate of Gain.
