The Haxtun Harvest

The following young people enjoyed a swimming party at the Jumbo Reservoir Sunday evening: Goldye Blake, Portia Lubchenco, Helen Clark, Evangeline Mooney, Maxine Gale, Charlotte Bellamy, Wesley McCune, Joe Intermill, Bill Krueger, Ben Birrell, Bud Donaldson, and Junior Radford.

A baby son was born Saturday to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Marlatt. Mother and baby are at the Mooney Hospital.

The fire department was called to the W. E. Meakins' home in north Haxtun Tuesday afternoon to extinguish a small blaze in a garage. The fire had been started by a number of children who became frightened when the flames spread. The fire was put out by the use of a garden hose.

Ehler J. Hovel, prominent Haxtun farmer, passed away Tuesday morning at the age of 55 years, two months, and one day. He was born in Germany on June 5, 1880, and came to America when 16 years of age. He came to Colorado with his family in 1921. His children are Miss Wilma, Walter, and Lorin. He was proceeded in death by a four-week-old daughter and an adopted daughter, who was 21.


Announcing a discontinuance of business operations in Haxtun. Mrs. Hartwell is advertising a removal sale this week for her shop. Mr. and Mrs. Hartwell expect to leave before the first of September for Paonia, where they will enter business.

A 60 Plus birthday party Wednesday was hosted by Emma Schoen. Those present were; Nora Dinsmore, Connie Jones, Edna Hulse, Glendora Rush, Hazel Ahnstedt, Clara Wisdom, Fern Hinde, and Pearl Meakins. The afternoon was spend visiting and enjoyed a lunch served by Emma Schoen.


Fairfield News - It is good to have Linnea Duell and Kathie Anderson home again after having spent some time with Teen Missions this summer.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bjorklun were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Skold at a dinner at a café in Holyoke Sunday noon. The Bjorkluns visited at the Skold home in the afternoon and enjoyed coffee with them. Mrs. Gladys Bjorklun joined group for coffee.

Mr. and Mrs. Brent Jeffers were Sunday dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ricker and Dustin. The spent the afternoon in the swimming pool at the Rickers.

Clarkville and Wags News - Joan Holcomb attended the Ag Advisory Board meeting at the Lone Star school Monday night.


Mr. and Mrs. Milton Hagemeier of Gordon, Nebraska, arrived Saturday morning to spend the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Salvador. They had dinner on Sunday at DJ's in Haxtun.

Rockland News - Wednesday evening Leon and Dorothy Fetzer visited Glenn and Valva Hofmeister also Steve and Nora and baby Alicia.

Wayne and Mary Gibbs, Melvin Gibbs, Bob and Penny Henry, Sy Sampson, Dalphine, Tony, Janet and Casey, Kim and Peggy helped Don and Pat Gibbs celebrate their wedding anniversary Sunday afternoon. Cake and punch were served, the guests enjoyed a cook out that evening.

Haxtun's Little League baseball team climaxed their 11-1 season with a first place championship at the Chappell, Neb. Tournament. Those with trophy Colby Starkebaum, Garrick Biesemeier, Grant Edwards, Cameron Ham, Joe Boerner, Kendall Kroeger, Garret Groshans, Jordan Hagemeyer, Andy Wernsman, Brian Krier and coached by Kyle Wilson and Mike McBee.


Members of Haxtun's pee wee baseball team made up of 9-10 year olds are Harrison Johnson, Keenan Hansberry, Tyler Wiess, Jeff Hawthorne, Austin Gielert, Ryan Dee, Jonathon Vance, Dean Wagoner, Doug Carper, Josh Larson, Kendall Kroeger, Colby Starkebaum, Derek Lundgren, Matt Ramirez and coached by Mike McBee and Kyle Wilson.

Beth Cummings, Julesburg, is the newest employee in the Phillips County Clerk's Office. She was hired as a part-time deputy clerk in May and went full-time in June. Cummings had seven years of experience as a deputy clerk for Sedgwick County before she accepted a part-time position with Phillips County.

The Haxtun-Fleming Herald

The water continues to rise at Jeff's Pond in Fleming. During a meeting in late July, Town employee Bill Helgoth told council members two additional acres of water are needed to completely fill the pond. Plans are to stock the pond with fish some time early next spring.

Five students recently visited New Orleans, La. for a week long National LMCS Youth Gathering. While at the gathering, the local youth helped restore parts of a church that was damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Those attending are Cole Fix, Jon Vance, Cody Fix, Kaitlin Hagemeyer and Marquel Gueck.
