The Haxtun Harvest

Daily News - W. G. McIntyre and wife of Englewood, Colorado are ere visiting their son H. B. McIntyre and family.

Good Hope News - Mr. and Mrs. John Hurst and family left Sunday to spend a week in the mountains. They are making the trip in a new Chevrolet car.

Mr. and Mrs. George Mutchie are enjoying a vacation visiting at Denver and fishing along the trout streams in the mountains.

The most talked of American Legion hall and club room at Haxtun now is gives every promise of being an accomplished fact within the space of a few weeks. The work of excavation has been completed and the cement work on the foundation and basement will be well under way by the time this issue of The Harvest is in the hands of its readers.

Aug. 28, 1935

The Haxtun Harvest

Fred W. Brown, young farmer living south of Haxtun, and Miss Wilma Stanley of Loveland were married Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist parsonage in Loveland. Mr. and Mrs. Brown expect to make their home on the Brown farm here.


Funeral services were held at the Brethren Church Sunday for Howard E. Farner, 55, who passed away at a hospital in Haxtun last Thursday. Mr. Farner had been ill less than a week and had under gone a major operation a few days before his death. He came 35 years ago here as a young man when the country was sparsely settled.

Several thousand sales tax tokens were received by Haxtun merchants last week from the state sales tax department and will be put into use for the first-time next Sunday, Sept. 1. The tokens are of aluminum, about one inch square, with a hole in the center. Their value is one-fifth of a cent.

Correctly predicting the date of their son's birth were the Rev. and Mrs. James Gans of Haxtun and their son Jacob John, accepts a gift for their correct prediction from Sue Legg of the Haxtun Family Medicine Center, Jacob was born at 11:21 p.m. on August 20.

Haxtun's girls' softball team completed an outstanding season during summer play. Team members are Patsy Bjorklun, Wendy Bornhoft, Kim Davis, Tammy Davis, Amy Bornhoft, Lisa Salvador, Kelly Lundgren, Julie Orth and Jennifer Harris, coached by Dale Dubbs.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Cheramy and Renee of Longmont spent the weekend in Haxtun at the home of his folks, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cheramy. The Longmont folks were Sunday dinner guests at the Fred Schumann home, the occasion was Alice and Carl Cheramy's wedding anniversary before returning home later in the afternoon.


Rockland News - Cindy Wisdom attended the lock-in meeting at the Fleming parsonage from Friday evening until Saturday morning. The Rockland and Fleming Youth groups were combined into one unit. Carrie Kain was elected President, Debbie Allen, Vice-President.

Wayne and Mary Gibbs and Staff Sergeant Raymond Gibbs met Fred and Margaret Secrist, Richard and Sharlyn Brown, Marsha and Jason at Poudre Canyon where they enjoyed some fishing. Wayne, Mary and Raymond went on to Rock Mountain National Park returning home Sunday evening.


Clarksville and Wages News - Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hofmeister and children were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hofmeister. Candy and the children visited Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Salvador and Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Hofmeister in Haxtun in the afternoon.

Sara Lundgren, Haxtun, David Grabski, Manitou Springs, and Robert Dreitz, Yuma, examined the lung of a man who died of lung cancer. Lundgren and friends dissected the lung during the lab portion of the Colorado Rural Health Scholars Program, conducted at the University of Colorado Health Science Center in June.

Haxtun Bulldog players for the 2000 football season are: Brandon Biesemeier, Matt Everitt, Craig Smith, Casey Wolff, Brett Sharpe, Ron Sporing, T.J Hovel, Colton Salyards, Garett Wilson, Greg Fetzer, Adam Wernsman, Brandon Krier, Seth Starkebaum, Braden Ham, Keith Shaw, Kevin Dee, Beau Starkebaum, Mike Ensminger, Randy Reed, Derik Hale, Preston Honstead, Nick Freemyer, Greg Widgery, Tony Berkheimer, Curtis Harms, Bryce Boerner, Austin Wilson, Nick Bosco, Jeff Harms, John Cloud and Regan Biesemeier. They are coached by John Starkebaum and assistant coach David Schafer.


The Fleming Wildcat football team for the 2000 season are: Greg Kraich, Clay Unrein, Robert Dix, Jared Harty, Dwight Bivens, Matt Harty, Damon Schaefer, Brandon Wernsman, Jason Stone, Matt Blom, Andrew Dreier, Joel Klug, Tommy Unrein, Ryan Etl, David Beck, Mike Wolever, Jacob Cheramy, Logan Darrell, Ryan Horton, Jeff Waterman, Jared Vandenbark, Darin Hershfeldt, Ben Wolever, Mark Blom coached by Kyle Stumpf and John King.

The Haxtun-Fleming Herald

The Haxtun's Childcare Coalition received double good news on grants last week, but one of those grants gives the group's fundraising goal a deadline. The Coalition landed a coveted $300,000 Department of Local Affairs grant with a stipulation that construction on the project must begin within a year of the date of notification.

Haxtun's Lady Bulldogs open the season with six returning starters from last year, Starters include Sara Kurtzer, Abby Kurtzer, Talya Mayhew, Tasha Helfer, Kimber Hadeen and Kelsey Garretson. The team includes eight seniors, two juniors, five sophomores and six freshmen.
