Sept. 10, 1925

The Haxtun Harvest

Rodney, Irene and Naomi, son and daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Kennedy, were operated on for the removal of tonsils at the Haxtun Hospital Sunday.

It is about five days yet until the prairie chicken season opens, but reports that some of the more impatient hunters were killing a number of birds this season and have caused considerable activity on the part of the game wards with the result that some 14 or more offenders have been arrested and fines ranging from $250 down have been collected.

Pumpkin Vine News - Mr. and Mrs. James Campbell and family started to Iowa Sunday where hey expected to visit for two or three weeks. They are making the trip in their car.

Dailey News - Jacob Fetzer was a Dailey caller Monday afternoon. We are glad to report that Mr. Fetzer is improving after a severe attack of rheumatism.


Fairfield News - Mr. Bissey our new High School teacher, is located with Mr. and Mrs. Hammond.

The Haxtun Harvest

Haxtun receives grant to build new swimming pool: A swimming pool at Haxtun was definitely assured last Friday when it was learned that the project had been included among the 26 grants approved by President Roosevelt. The project provides for construction of a swimming pool, wading pool, bathhouse, and installation of a lighting system in the city park, at a cost of $7,183. The town, as sponsor, will be required to furnish $1,812 as its share. The pool is to be 45 by 90 feet and nine feet six inches deep at its lowest point, carrying water to a depth of eight and one-half feet. The pool will be so constructed that drainage water may be used for irrigation in the city park, a block east.


Frank Olson is victim of stroke early Tuesday: Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon for J. F. Olson, 54, who died Sept. 3, 1935. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Hamilton and Mrs. Marjorie Vanderlage; four sons Seibert, Vechel, John Jr. and Aubrey; and his mother, Mrs. C.E. Olson of Haxtun. There are also seven brothers and sisters.

Haxtun Fightin' Bulldog captains Jim Orth and Lennie Fisbeck prepare for the opening of the 1980 season against state champion Limon Friday night.

A bridal shower was given for Miss Judy Bauserman from Manzanola. She is the bride-elect of Lynn Dreier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Loren Dreier of Fleming. The hostesses for the shower were Mrs. Wayne Dreier, Ms. Kathy Dreier, Mrs. Brian Ham and Becky Dreier.


Faced with a tough and well-balanced league this season, Fleming's Wildcat football team hopes to capitalize on 11 returning lettermen in building for the 1980 season.

Rockland News - Dorothy Fetzer, Mildred Wisdom, Ida Mae Wisdom and Cindy, Mary Allen and Debbie, Viola Hinde and Clara Wisdom were among those attending the Mother-Daughter banquet in Fleming Tuesday evening.

Roy Wisdom went to Sterling, Monday morning where he helped his son Bob with roofing on his hose from hail damage.

Clarksville and Wages News - Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Chapman took a weekend trip to Greeley before Gary left for school in Olathe, Kansas on Tuesday. They went to Colorado Springs and the Pike's Peak area, the Hall of Presidents, House of Cars, Seven Falls, Royal Gorge, Canon City and the state fair at Pueblo. The boys went on an Alpine Slide.


Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Schmidt, Todd and Tammy went to Wray on Wednesday afternoon. Chuck and Todd golfed with Jim Schmidt in the afternoon and both Schmidt families had dinner at the Sandhiller in the evening.

Fleming News - Mrs. Paul Lambert curator of the Fleming Museum received a money donation and a pair of antique salt and pepper shakers from Mrs. Mary Sweetman.

Among those who attended the wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Chas Meakins in Haxtun Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Frank McDaniel, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Lambert.


Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Lambert and daughters surprised his dad, Jerry Lambert, Friday by bringing him a birthday cake and ice cream and spending the evening with Jerry, June and Royce.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Barkley and friends from Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lanthan, Canyon Texas, have enjoyed a vacation together that took them to Riverton, Wyoming where they called on the Dennis Tippits family, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone. Then via the Yellow Canyon they went to the Big Horn Reservoir and Buffalo, Wyoming where they enjoyed fishing. They came home via Fox Park in Wyoming arriving in Fleming Thursday night.

Emma Vaughn, daughter of Boone and Barbara Vaughn, Meeker, was among the candidates competing for the title of Miss Teen of America Scholastic and Recognition, at the 2000 Colorado State pageant which was held in Fort Collins on July 28-30. Emma is the granddaughter of John and Mary Weibers of Fleming, CO. She had 23 family members attend the pageant.

Lillian Salvador is ridin' high when she climbed aboard a 9600 John Deere during harvest time this past summer. The wheat being cut was in her field.
