The Wildcats of Fleming hit the road for the second consecutive week of this year's basketball season last week. The second week of the season took them to Weldon Valley where they took a five-point victory over the Warriors and to Genoa-Hugo for a one-point win over the Pirates.

Fleming found themselves down by four to open the first quarter at Weldon Valley on Friday, Feb. 5. Weldon Valley tallied 14 points in the opening minutes while giving up just 10 to the Wildcat offense.

Fleming evened the score in the second adding 14 of their own and giving up 10 to the Warriors. The scoreboard read 24-all at halftime.

Weldon Valley returned from intermission to reclaim their lead, this time by just two points, and brought the score to 34-32.

The Wildcats came out solid in the fourth and final quarter to hold Weldon Valley's offense to their game-low three points for the quarter. Fleming's offense put up 10 to close the game at 42-37.

Senior Kade Comstock led the Wildcats on both ends of the court. He tallied 18 points for his offense and brought down eight total rebounds.

Sophomore Braylen Feather followed Comstock on the scoreboard with 12 points for the night.

Sophomore Nolan Japp followed in rebounds with seven. He matched Comstock's defensive rebound tally with three.

Saturday's showing with Genoa-Hugo was another exciting, evenly-matched contest. The Pirates hosted the event.

Genoa-Hugo came out on top by two after the first quarter, 8-6. Fleming evened the score before the half adding 18 in the second quarter and giving up 16 to the Pirates. Both teams owned 24 points at intermission.

Fleming's offense returned in the third period to add 12 points and gave themselves a little breathing room by holding the Pirates to seven. The Wildcats held a five-point lead heading into the final minutes of play.

Just when it looked like Fleming might sail to a smooth victory, the home team brought their best offense efforts in final quarter. Genoa-Hugo added 20 points, their game-high, in the closing minutes. Fleming held on to their lead adding 16 to scrape by with a one-point lead at the final horn.

Comstock led his team for the second consecutive night on the scoreboard. He added 23 points at Genoa-Hugo ­- 11 of those on the house. Comstock went to the line 19 times in the contest. He earned his remaining 12 on two-point field goals.

Senior Chris Goss followed with 11 points. He went one for two a the charity stripe and grabbed 10 more points from the floor.

Sophomore Kolten Houser brought down the team-high rebounds for the night with 11. He earned three offensive and eight defensive boards.

Goss followed under the basket with nine rebounds. His were split at seven and two respectively.

The Wildcats were set to host the Merino Rams on Tuesday evening. Results of that contest were not available as of press time.

On Saturday, Fleming is scheduled to host the 2-3 Kit Carson Wildcats. They enter the week coming off three straight losses to Limon, Cheraw and Hi-Plains. Kit Carson is set to take on Simla and Granada prior to their appearance in Fleming on Saturday. The day's contests are set to start at 2 p.m.

On Tuesday, Feb. 16, the Wildcats plan to meet up with the Peetz Bulldogs at Peetz for league match up. The Bulldogs were 0-4 as of press time Tuesday morning. Games at Peetz are set to begin at 5 p.m.
