HAXTUN FBLA students feel careers will come first before settling down to marriage and raising a family. When they do have children, they feel they will stay home until the children are in school before returning to work. All intended to seek higher education.

March 25, 1936

Farmer jubilant as big snow settles over entire region. Blizzard Monday brings nearly an inch of moisture; soil is in good condition after long drought ends; more snow coming: The store brought close to eight inches of snow in this region.

Ross Frank, eighth grade student in the Daley school won first place in the Logan County public speaking contest held in Sterling gSaturday. He will accompany Miss Lester, the county superintendent, to Denver the first week in April to enter the state speaking contest.

Winners in the annual speaking contest held at Paoli Friday evening: Primary division, Glen Lohn, Paoli; Nyona Johnson, Paoli; Lois Harms, Plainview. First, second and third awards in the primary dramatic group Gladys Harms, Plainview; Rhoda Walls, Paoli, and Lois Carnes, Philorado. Advanced humorous division, Erma Jean Schnieder, Paoli; Beryl Mutchis, Prairie Star; George Walls Jr., Paoli. Advanced dramatic group, Alman Poerter, Grace Koerner and Harold Reyher, all of Paoli.


Good Hope News - Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilterdink are the proud parents of a baby boy born Friday. They named him Ervin Charles.

The girls of the pep club of the Fairfield school entertained the members of the basketball team at a lovely banquet Tuesday evening, March 20, at the Lawrence Bjorklun home. Those who enjoyed the occasion were August Bjorklun, Leland Eckman, Jim Stansbury, Ronald Hadeen, Larry Anderson, Sam Goddard, Gary and Glen Sandquist, Dean Anderson, Dennis Eckman, Eugene Westerman, Bill Goddard, Doyle Hadeen, Wayne Flak, John Townsend, Miss Valva Hill, Mr. and MRs. A.C. Forell, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bjorklun and the Misses Astrid Franson, Bessie Jean Knode, Evelyn Westerman, Elvida Knode, LaVonne Voris, LaVonne Anderson, Edythe and Doris Sandquist, Karen Kaiser and Naomi Knode.


Hospital News - Mrs. Jerome Davis, baby boy, born Friday (March 21, 1951). He weighed six pounds, 13 ounces and has been named Patrick Wayne.

Fleming News - A kitchen shower honoring Miss Gayle Yount was held Thursday evening in the home of Miss Marion Wheeler. Present were Mrs. Ted H. Yount and Joyce, Mrs. Paul Bornhoft, Mrs. Bill Plank Jr., Mrs. Bill Keil, Mrs. Harold Haynes, Jayne Nelson, Eulalia Burton, Rita Burenheide, Marlene Uhler, Alma Fetzer, LaVonne Lippitt, Lois Kinzie, Charlotte Swedlund, Norma Wolfe, Barbara Barkley, and Mrs. B.V. Wheeler.

Death: Narcissa Alberta "Bertha" Decker, 94, March 22, 1976.

Mr. and Mrs. Keith C. Hauschild of Fleming have announced the marriage on March 6, 1976, of their daughter, Cynthia Sue Hauschild to Jay Dean Wisdom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wisdom of Haxtun. Rev. Dennis Sillaman officiated at the double-ring rites.

Ron Liufau, member of the fightin' Bulldog stage band, was chosen as one of the outstanding musicians at the 11th annual Akron Stage Band Festival on March 19.

Fleming Junior High's 1976 wrestling team: Ken Schufeldt, Ty Wardrip, Dave Deines, Mike Goebel, Mike Nolde, Jim Yockey, Tom Burton, Greg Sonnenberg, Jeff Grauberger, Marc Sweet, Brian Stansfield, Tim Grauberger, Scott Kirkwood, and coach Monte Anderson.


Tony Ham, senior at Haxtun High, has been named as a player in the all-state football game on Aug. 13 at Jefferson County auditorium in Denver.

A laboratory suspected of manufacturing methamphetamine, a drug known as speed, was seized by law enforcement agents last week.

Obituary: Vincent Russler Allen, 78, Pollock Pines, Calif., March 10, 1991,

Melissa Free and Dale Chaney will advance to the state science fair at CSU April 11-13. Free, a senior, won first place in the senior division of physical science at the regional science fair in Sterling on March 2. Chaney, a junior, won first place in the senior division of Botany.

Fleming band students in attendance at the state contest in Fort Morgan: Ryan Atkinson, Adriana Bricknell, Randy Kirkwood, Adam Schmidt, Sara Atkinson, Jaime Miles, Clarissa Lousberg, Amber Mekelburg, Blake Kelly and Stacey Waterman.

Twenty-three year old Ben Cox was seriously injured during a skiing accident on Thursday, March 17. The 2006 Haxtun High School graduate was air lifted to St. Anthony's Central Hospital in Denver where he remains in intensive care.

The Fleming Wildcats moved on to a 3-1 overall record following a loss to Wray on Saturday and a win over Yuma on Monday. Both baseball games were non-conference competitions.

The Haxtun Bulldog baseball team tallied two wins in their season and home opener on Tuesday, March 15. The Bulldogs swept a double header with Wiggins to claim their first two victories of the season.
