Lady Wildcats take clean sweeps; move on to 6-0 on the season

SOPHOMORE LIBERO Lexi Schaefer passes the ball to the front row in last Saturday's home match against Lone Star. The Lady Wildcats made a clean sweep last week with wins over Peetz, Weldon Valley and Lone Star.

Fleming's Lady Wildcats added three sweeps to their 3-0 record in week two action on the volleyball court. They traveled to Peetz last Tuesday before making their home court debut on Friday against Weldon Valley and hosted Lone Star on Saturday to wrap up the week's play.

Tuesday's match at Peetz was a quick one. The Lady Wildcats took victories in sets one through three, 25-12, 25-12 and 25-8.

Sophomore Kally Kirkwood led at the net in kills against the Lady Bulldogs. She put 12 of 16 attempts on the floor. Junior Whitney Chintala followed with eight kills. Freshman Madi Serrato tallied three kills and sophomore Maddy Harms added three.

Junior Sam Pope led the team in aces with eight. Chintala served over five aces followed by Serrato and senior Kendyl Kirkwood with four and three, respectively.

From the setter's position, Kendyl Kirkwood put up 28 assists for the Lady Wildcat hitters.


Chintala and sophomore Lexi Schaefer led from the back row in digs in the short match - both putting up double digits in the category. Chintala earned 11 digs while Schaefer put up another 10.

On Friday, April 2, the Lady Wildcats hosted the Weldon Valley Lady Warriors for their first home game on the year. The Lady Warriors fell in three, 25-16, 25-15 and 25-17.

Kally Kirkwood and Chintala led once again at the net in kills. Kirkwood pounded down 16 and Chintala added another 10.

Harms led the team in blocks for the night with two. Chintala and Kendyl Kirkwood added one block apiece.

A trio of Lady Wildcats led in aces for the contest. Harms, Serrato and sophomore Laney Schliesser each sent two aces over the net.


Another trio led from the back row defensively - each tacking on double digit digs. Chintala led her team in digs with 20 against Weldon Valley. Serrato and Kendyl Kirkwood followed with 12 and 11, respectively.

Saturday, April 3, brought the Lone Star Lady Longhorns to Fleming's court. A Lone Star coaching squad comprised of former Lady Wildcats Kalyn Serrato, Jessica (Williams) Burt and Jessica Stone took on their alma mater. Lone Star fought hard in sets one and two, but fell 25-16 and 25-15. The Lady Wildcats sailed to a three-set victory with a 25-8 win in set three.

Kendyl Kirkwood put up 29 assists for the Lady Wildcat hitters.

Kally Kirkwood and Chintala led for the third consecutive match at the net. Kally Kirkwood tallied 18 kills; Chintala added another 11.


Pope and Schliesser led the group in aces. Both servers put over three perfect serves.

Chintala and Schaefer led from the back row in digs. Chintala earned the team-high 15 digs; Schaefer added 11.

The Lady Wildcats are set to go on the road twice this week. They started out at Ovid on Tuesday, April 6, against the Sedgwick County Lady Cougars. Results of that contest were not determined as of press time.

On Friday, April 9, the team is scheduled to take on Briggsdale at the home of the Lady Falcons in match beginning at 6 p.m.

On Tuesday, April 13, the Lady Wildcats are slated to return to their home court for a match against the Holyoke Lady Dragons. That match is listed for a 5:30 p.m. start.
