HAXTUN AND FLEMING students who recently competed in a Voice of Democracy speech contests are pictured (l-r), Reagan Jones, Kinsley Koberstein, Siena Donnelson, Kale Volkman, Colton Cochran and Corbin Andersen.

In Fleming, junior high students wrote research papers on a person who has impacted history and later turned them into speeches. The top three winners in the March contest included Cochran, Volkman and Donnelson.

Haxtun students in Mrs. Kristi Boerner's English classes had the option to participate in the contest and three did so including Andersen, Koberstein and Jones.

Last week, the six students from the two schools gathered for lunch and to present their speeches in front of judges at the Haxtun Community Center. Donnelson, who wrote her speech on Marie Curie, took first place in the contest.
