Mr. and MRs. Ernest Starkebaum entertained in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Friehaufs wedding anniversary. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Hohn, Mr. and Mrs. Veylerd Baker and daughter, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hohn.
Ben Gueck, lay delegate, Mrs. John Blake of WSCS and William Schacterle of Highland Center attended the annual Methodist Conference held in Denver.

Rose Leuth and Walter McClain were quietly married at the Church of the Brethren.
Gordon Thomas and Ray Cooper enlisted in the US Navy and were stationed near San Francisco, Calif.
Eight Haxtun Boys Scouts and their leader, George McCulloch, spent a week at a camp near Estes Park. The boys were Bob and Jim Kasparek, Maynard Yost, Tommy Saylor, Ronald Pope, Dennis Hovel, Dale Smith and Lloyd Pilakowski.
Lloyd Ensminger was the winner in the final event of the progressive motorcycle race held at the Sterling fairgrounds.
Mrs. Glenn Lycan and daughter, Barbara of Santa Fe, N.M., visited with her father, Steve Meakins and other relatives.

Rev. Jerome Ahlstedt was director of the vacation bible school. Other teachers were Mesdames Mildred Jeffers, Marilyn Ricker, Jeri Anderson, Harriet Duell, Gladys Bjorklun, Norma Michael, Jeannie Anderson and Elaine Ahlstedt.
Attending a picnic in Sterling honoring Mrs. Bonnie Mae Ostby and sons of Edina, Minn., were Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Lydin of Boulder, Mr. and Mrs. Carol Lydin of Denver, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Garretson and sons of Fort Collins, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Garretson and family, Mr. and Mrs. William Ruch and Mrs. and Mrs. Wesley Garretson.
Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Ham and children visited Verner Ham who was a patient in the North Platte, Neb. Hospital.
Mrs. Lloyd Atkins installed the following officers at the meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary: Mesdames Gaylord McDonnell, Robert Grauberger, Lorin Riley, John Rahe, Don Wisdom, Rover Clark and Howard Gibbs.
Mr. and Mrs. C.F. Edwards were weekend guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Russell and daughters in Denver.

Malvin Jones retired after 41 years of work with the Burlington Northern Railroad. He and his wife moved to Haxtun in 1974 where he served as station agent. He and his wife planned to continue living in Haxtun.
Pam Salvador, Barb Holcomb, Mary Salvador, Laurie Gibbs, Maude Reynolds and Mr. and Mrs. Rex Hadeen helped dress chickens in the Harry Salvador home. The group enjoyed dinner together with the Salvadors.
Danny Fetzer was honored on his birthday at a party at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Fetzer. Guests included Sean Fryrear, Gibb Becker, Aaron Knode, Ryan Jeffryes, Doug Hainley, Roger Fetzer, Wade Reutter and Jay Goddard.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fix and Trever spent several days in Denver where Trever took part in a wrestling tournament.
Mr. and Mrs. Gary Grabowski and family of Denver were weekend guests in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Fetzer in Rockland.

The Haxtun Community Hospital is to receive a new roof. The old roof will be completely removed and replaced with an entirely new one. Funds from the Heginbotham Trust have made this $140,000 project possible.
The Haxtun Federal Credit Union announced that a $5.00 savings account would be awarded to the first baby born in Haxtun each month.
Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Kinzie and Mr. and Mrs. Doug Kinzie spent the weekend at the Neal Allen home in Denver where they attended the graduation exercises at Denver University. Becky Allen received a degree in business.

Monday marks the 4th of July, which means celebration of the red, white and blue. The Haxtun Chamber of Commerce is hosting an afternoon of activities at the Haxtun Park leading up to fireworks by the local fire department. Events kick off at 4 p.m.
The Fleming Town Council addressed several concerns about animals in town limits during a meeting on Tuesday, June 21. The Council plans to begin issuing warnings to community members whose animals are a nuisance.
