LADY WILDCAT junior Laney Schliesser reaches for a dig in the only home contest for the team so far this season. The Lady Wildcats went 1-1 in road action last week with a loss to Briggsdale and a win over Peetz. This week the team is set to travel to Prairie on Friday before hosting a homecoming match against Flagler on Friday afternoon.

The Fleming Lady Wildcats dropped their first match of the season at the home of the Briggsdale Lady Falcons last week. Both teams saw 1A State Tournament action earlier this year in mid-May and fell at the hands of the Merino Lady Rams; Briggsdale in round one and Fleming in the Championship.

The Lady Wildcats sailed to a smooth 3-0 victory over the Lady Falcons just a few short months ago at the home of the Lady Falcons. Briggsdale returned the favor on Thursday taking sets one through three 25-22, 26-24 and 25-21, respectively.

Despite the loss, the Lady Wildcats put up solid numbers across the board in stats; a showing consistent with those prior. The two teams will meet on Fleming's home court in early October.

Junior Kally Kirkwood and senior Whitney Chintala added double digits at the net in kills for their first outing against Briggsdale. Kirkwood led with 14; Chintala added another 12.

Kirkwood and junior classmate Maddy Harms led the defensive efforts at the net in blocks. Both players put up five total blocks. Kirkwood's split at three solo and two assisted; Harms' split at one and four, respectively.

Four players made double digit defensive performances from the back row in digs. Chintala led the group with 20; Kirkwood followed with 18. Junior Lexi Schaefer and senior Zoey Vandenbark put up 16 and 15 digs, respectively.

Freshman Madi Serrato led behind the serving line. She served 100 percent on 15 serves with three aces. Kirkwood made good on 100 percent of her 14 attempts with two aces and Chintala went nine for nine from behind the line.

Kirkwood and Chintala split duties from the setter's position. Kirkwood assisted with 12 kill attempts while Chintala put up nine sets.

As a team, the Lady Wildcats made just four serve receive errors. Schaefer led from the back row in serve receive putting up 26 passes. Chintala followed, also hitting double digits, with 15. Vandenbark and junior Laney Schliesser followed with nine and eight, respectively.

Friday night's contest put Fleming on the road to Peetz to face off with the then 0-1 Lady Bulldogs. According to MaxPreps, Peetz met up with Weldon Valley on the last day of August when they took their first loss of the year.

The Lady Wildcats handed Peetz loss number two on the season, closing the deal in three sets, 25-13, 25-7 and 25-8.

Several Lady Wildcats went 100 percent from behind the serving line for the contest. Junior Maddy Zink made good on five attempts from behind the line. Schliesser served 100 percent on three attempts with two aces. Schaefer and freshman Kylie Bretz-Hoskins made perfect showings on two and one attempts, respectively.

Chintala led in aces with nine. She put 21 of 22 attempts over the net. Kirkwood added another three aces on 12 attempts.

Chintala and Kirkwood again split front row setting duties. Chintala completed 15 assists and Kirkwood added eight.

Serrato tallied the most kills for the squad in the match. She put seven kills on the floor. Harms and senior Sam Pope followed with five apiece.

At the net on defense, the blocking duo of Harms and Kirkwood put up the team's two blocks for the contest. Each player earned one solo block.

Schaefer and Chintala led the defensive charge from the back row - both tallying five digs.

The Lady Wildcats now stand at 5-1 overall on the season. This week they're scheduled for back-to-back Friday/Saturday action.

Friday evening, Sept. 10 takes the team on the road to Prairie. MaxPreps listed Lady Mustangs at 0-3 as of press time. They are set to take on the 5-1 North Park Lady Wildcats prior to meeting up with the local Lady Wildcats. A match time of 5:30 p.m. is listed for Fleming versus Prairie.

A homecoming match is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 11 against the Flagler Lady Panthers. Flagler is listed at 3-2 as of press time. They were set to take on Haxtun on Tuesday, Sept. 7; results of that contest were not determined as of press time. Saturday's homecoming match at Fleming is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
