HAXTUN SENIOR Allie Thompson helps students Aeris Evanson, middle, and Serenity Dick, left, light their candles during a prayer vigil for students at Wiley High School. Originally, Haxtun was slated to take on Wiley in a football game at Adam Wernsman Field but a tragic accident claimed the lives of four Wiley students and critically injured a fifth just two nights before.

In place of the game, Haxtun Schools and the community came together to help raise funds for the families affected by the accident in Powers County with a dinner and silent auction. At dusk, Pastor Jeri Soens led students and community members in a prayer vigil to recognize and pray for those who lost their lives and for the student still hospitalized from his injuries.

All funds raised at the event will be given to the Wiley Panther Memorial Fund at Legacy Bank to be split with the families affected by the accident.
