Lady Bulldogs notch win over Wray-on a 10-game winning streak

The Haxtun Lady Bulldogs added another notch to the win column in their lone contest last week. A three-set sweep over the Lady Eagles in Wray leaves the Lady Bulldog 10-2 overall and 4-0 in league play, according to Maxpreps.

Haxtun will face off with top-ranked Merino at home on Friday and turn around and host the neighboring Fleming Lady Wildcats on Tuesday.

In Wray last week, Haxtun took set one 24-17 and sets two and three 25-16 and 25-12, respectively.

Senior Allie Thompson had a stellar performance at the net, putting down 17 of 36 kill attempts for a .444 hitting percentage. The senior averaged 5.7 kills per set. She also led at the net in blocks with six assisted for an average of two blocks per set. Thompson also registered seven assists on the night.

Taylor Schram also added to the teams total of 34 kills last Tuesday, putting down six throughout the three-set match. She also registered three aces and served 95 percent. As the team's setter, she put up 19 assists while also tallying seven digs in the back row.


Back row specialist K'lyn Bornhoft performed well on the court, notching three serving aces. She also registered 16 digs on defense and 16 successful passes on serve receive.

Sophomore Megan Walker added four kills against Wray. She also performed well at the night with five total blocks. Behind the service line, she added one ace.

Freshman Bobbi Starkebaum nailed four of 11 kill attempts. Sophomore Cassidy Goddard and senior Ella Coffin each served 100 percent on the night. Coffin also tallied four assisted block at the net while registering seven digs and nine passes on serve receive. Grace Gibson put up eight passes on serve receive and tallied two digs on defense.


This week the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Yuma for a Tuesday evening match up with the Lady Indians.

According to Maxpreps, as of game day, the Lady Indians held a 5-5 overall record. Results from the contest were not available as of press time.

On Friday, Haxtun will host the Lady Rams from Merino who are currently 9-1 overall and 2-1 in league action. The Lady Rams recently suffered a five-set loss to the Sedgwick County Lady Cougars but have won against all other opponents.

Then Tuesday, Sept. Oct. 5, the Lady Bulldogs will return again to their home court as the host the Lady Wildcats from Fleming. The Lady Wildcats hold a 10-1 record with a lone loss to Briggsdale in early September. The team recently notched wins over Lone Star, Holyoke, Caliche and Flagler.


After next week, Haxtun will have a line-up of Sedgwick County, Wiley, Hi-Plains, Weldon Valley, Otis, Prairie and Akron before post-season play begins.
