David Templeton, prominent citizen of Haxtun and pioneer rancher in this territory, passed away early Sunday morning (Oct. 11, 1936) at the age of 90 years.
A granary containing more than 200 bushels of wheat was destroyed at the farm operated by Hubert Brown two and one-half miles northeast of Haxtun Wednesday afternoon. A new lean-to shed, which served as a barn, escaped damage when neighbors and several men from Haxtun cut the shed loose from the burning building and kept the flames from spreading with the use of water.
Little Gem Hoahing of China proved herself a sensation at the girls' junior lawn tennis championship tournament at Wimbledon.

Haxtun High School Happenings - The members of the high school band had a meeting Monday afternoon and elected officers for the year: Milton Hill, secretary; Dorothy Hire, treasurer; Stuart Exstrom, student director and business manager; membership committee, Bill Gale, Clyde Reynolds, Mary Clark, Eileen Gipple and John Grant; Coral Hart and Billy Beckman, librarians.

Duane Gall, seven-year-old son of Mrs. Fern Gall, was admitted Thursday for treatment for a broken shoulder. He underwent surgery Friday.
The First Methodist Church of Haxtun was the scene of a beautiful candlelight wedding on Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock when Phyllis Ruth Anderson became the bride of Wilbur H. Atkins. The couple left after a reception for an extended honeymoon trip to the West Coast.
Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Anderson and Diane, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Anderson, Robert Anderson and Norman Schoen attended the stock car races in Sidney Sunday.
There will be no increase of postage rates until after the first of the year. The postage on one-cent postal cards remains the same. So with letters and air mail letters, at three and six cents per ounce, respectively.
The hospital now has a mechanically-cooled oxygen tent, which purchase was made possible through the Dehner estate.
Fleming News - Rev. and Mrs. Harold Dobson announce the birth of a son, David Lynn, at Hays Springs, Nebr., on Oct. 9.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cundell of Guernsey, Wyo., visited Monday with Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Prouty.

Larry Wilson and Melanie Hofmeister were crowned as 1976 homecoming royalty at halftime ceremonies during the Merino-Haxtun game Friday evening. Attendants were Karie Anderson, Julie Hinde, Max Fetzer and Ron Luifau.
Gary Sperber will be the swimming instructor for the Water Safety Instructor course that will be held at the Haxtun pool Oct. 15 and 16.
The Frenchman Education Association met with the Fleming Board of Education Monday evening. Proposals brought before the board were for a 1977-78 base salary of $9,000, plus a full single insurance benefit.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Connell Jr. are the parents of a baby boy born Oct. 10 in the Logan County Hospital. He has been given the name Robert Philps Connell III.
Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Ham are the parents of their first child, a baby girl, born Oct. 12 at the Haxtun Hospital. She has been named Marcie Lee Ham.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Gueck are the parents of a son, Brian Wayne, born Oct. 5 in the Haxtun Hospital.

Governor Roy Romer brought a few smiles to students' faces during his Dome on the Range visit to Haxtun school. Jason Sampson and Mariah Wagner are pictured with the governor, along with Ann Yost, teacher.
The reality of a fishing pond near Haxtun came closer last week when officials learned a request for funds has been approved through the Colorado Division of Wildlife. members of the original fishing pond committee, Winston Ham, Gary Haynes, Merlyn "Pink" Queen, and Alice Bamford. Later Sherrilyn and Dale Smith, Dave Schaefer, Tommy Thompson, Reon Chaney, Jean Gray and Tom Davis joined the group.

Haxtun High School seniors Kati Kaus and Cole Fix were crowned Homecoming Queen and King on Friday night at halftime of the Bulldogs' gridiron match up with Merino. Other candidates included Luke Davis, Cody Fix, Kelsey Garretson and Marquel Gueck.
Enhancements and updates at Homesteaders' Park continue according to updates give by the Phillips County Commissioners during their end of September meeting. The commissioners reported signing a contract to begin work on the new handicapped accessible park as well as additional grants from the Colorado Department of Transportation.
