With just a handful of games left on the regular season schedule, the Haxtun Lady Bulldogs boast a 13-3 overall record while clinching the second place seed in the 2A/1A Lower Platte League following action on the court last week. The team took a three-set sweep over Fleming last Tuesday but suffered their first loss of the season since opening weekend at the hands of the high-ranking 2A Sedgwick County Lady Cougars on Friday.

Haxtun hosted Fleming for a 1A battle on the court last Tuesday. The Lady Bulldogs fought for a close, 29-27, win in set one but took sets two and three by a larger margin, although still close, 25-21 and 25-22, respectfully.

Three Lady Bulldogs led at the net, combining for a total of 32 kills. Senior Allie Thompson led the trio with 14 kills from 40 attempts with just four errors. She earned a .250 hitting percentage throughout the three-set win. Senior Taylor Schram and sophomore Cassidy Goddard each put down nine kills. Schram put down nine of 40 kill attempts with just four errors for a .075 hitting percentage. Goddard nailed nine of 21 attempts with four errors for a .238 percentage on the night.

Goddard and Thompson also led at the net with blocks. Thompson tallied eight, three solo and three assists. Goddard registered a total of seven blocks, three assists and two solo. As a team, the Bulldogs tallied 15 blocks against the Lady Wildcats.

Two Haxtun players went 100 percent from behind the service line including senior K'lyn Bornhoft and Thompson. Megan Walker registered three aces followed by Bornhoft with two.

As a setter on the team, Schram added 19 assists for Bulldog kills followed by Thompson with 17.

In the back row, Libero Bornhoft tallied 21 digs on defense and 21 passes on serve receive. Schram registered 16 digs followed by Thompson and Ella Coffin, each with 14. On serve receive, Coffin earned 19 successful passes with no errors.

On Friday, Haxtun traveled to Ovid to take on the Sedgwick County Lady Cougars in their annual homecoming contest. The winner would go on to clinch the Lower Platte League championship. Sedgwick County would take that spot with a four-set win over the Lady Bulldogs. Haxtun fell in set one, 25-14, but battled from behind for a second set win, 25-20. The Lady Cougars dominated for a third set win, 25-15 before taking the fourth and final, 25-23.

Three Lady Bulldogs led in kills including Schram, Goddard and Thompson, each with seven on the night. Thompson led in hitting percentage with a .069 off seven kills from 29 attempts. Schram tallied eight blocks at the net, the team high. She earned two on her own and also added six assisted blocks.

Goddard had a stellar night from behind the serving line, registering seven aces. Thompson added three aces followed by Schram and Walker, each with two.

Thompson, Bornhoft and Schram each tallied 13 digs in the back row. On serve receive, Coffin registered 23 passes followed by Bornhoft with 18 and Walker with 10.

This week the Lady Bulldogs will be on the road for a triangle contest with Hi-Plains and Bethune at Hi-Plains. Games are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

To round out the regular season, the Lady Bulldogs will face off with Weldon Valley, Otis, Wiley, Prairie and Akron over the next few weeks.
