Dear Haxtun Community

October 20, 2021

Dear Haxtun Community,

I am extremely blessed that I have been able to serve you as the Chief for the Police Department for the last 19 years. During this time, I have watched many children grow and flourish and have seen many wonderful changes for the town. I have shed tears with many families and have helped people in their greatest time of need. This is an amazing community, one that pulls together when things get tough and one that supports one another during difficult times. This has always made me extremely proud to call this my community. You as a community have been supportive of the police department and have supported me in achieving the goals that I had established for the down and the department. It is because of all of you that I have been successful and for that I will be eternally grateful.

This wonderful community and its support are what has made this a very difficult decision.

I have decided to retire my position with the Haxtun Police Department. Please know that has been a difficult decision, however, is one that is best for me and my family at this time. My husband, Jason, and I will continue to call Haxtun our home. I will continue to serve the Haxtun Community, however through a different role than that as your Chief. I have accepted a position with the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. Through this position I will continue to serve Haxtun as well as the Police Department. I will continue to serve on committees and support the growth of the town.

Thank you does not seem like nearly enough to say to such an amazing community; however, I do thank you. Thank you for your support and for allowing me to be your Chief. Continue to support and care for each other. Be patient with the department and the Town as we all continue to work through the changes and continue to support the department and the officers to come.

Please also know that you can continue to reach out to me if you need anything.

With great respect and much love,

Chief Tanya Mayhew
