The Lady Wildcats continue to maintain their undefeated season finishing last week at 2-0 with wins over Arickaree/Woodlin and Gilpin County. They sit in Colorado High School Activities Association's rankings at number three behind Briggsdale and Flatirons Academy.

Fleming hosted a tournament last weekend; inviting Arickaree/Woodlin, Gilpin County and Denver Waldorf to their home court. The Lady Wildcats sailed to a smooth Friday victory over Arickaree/Woodlin.

Fleming owned a nine-point advantage over the visiting Lady Indians after the first quarter on Friday. They widened that gap by another four before the close of the half, going up 22-9.

The Lady Wildcats returned for the second half to continue to dominate. The home team offense added 29 points while the defense gave up just 10 and the Lady Wildcats took a 51-19 win over the Arickaree/Woodlin Lady Indians.

Junior Lexi Schaefer led the Lady Wildcats on the scoreboard with 11 points. She went two for three in both two and three-point shots for 10 of her tally. Senior Whitney Chintala and junior Kally Kirkwood followed with 10 points apiece.

Junior Maddy Harms led her team under the net in rebounds with six. She split evenly at three offensive and three defensive boards. Sophomore Madi Serrato followed with five rebounds; three and two respectively.

Saturday's contest looked a little more evenly match as the hosting Lady Wildcats took on the Gilpin County Lady Eagles. The opening half was all Fleming who held a 16-point lead before the opening 20 minutes wound down. They out scored the Lady Eagles by six in the first and 10 in the second to hold a 31-15 advantage at halftime.

Gilpin County returned in the second half to match Fleming's offense. They put up four more points than the home team in the third, 15-11, and tied their tally in the fourth, 6-all. In the end, Fleming held the upper hand and took a 12-point win over the Lady Eagles, 48-36.

Three Lady Wildcats added double digits to the scoreboard on Saturday night. Chintala led Fleming's offense with 19 points. She shot 80 percent in two-point field goals for 16 points and added the remaining three from outside the three-point arc.

Kirkwood and Serrato added 12 points apiece to Fleming's side of the scoreboard. Kirkwood sunk five of six two-point attempts and went 100 percent from the free-throw line for the remaining two. Serrato earned six on two-pointers and six on three-pointers.

Harms led in boards with three offensive and six defensive for nine total. Kirkwood brought down five defensive and Serrato added five split at two and three respectively.

The Lady Wildcats have completed the opening portion of the 2021-22 season with unblemished 5-0 record. They'll now take a break from competition for the holidays and are expected to return in early January.

To open 2022, the Lady Wildcats are scheduled to travel to Merino on Friday, Jan. 7, to take on the undefeated Lady Rams. Merino sits behind Fleming in the fourth slot in CHSAA's rankings this week. Games are set to begin at 4 p.m. that day according to MaxPreps.

On Saturday, Jan. 8, the Lady Wildcats of Kit Carson are scheduled to come to Fleming for afternoon play. Kit Carson holds the number eight spot in rankings with a 4-1 overall record. MaxPreps lists a 2 p.m. start time for basketball action that day.
