HAXTUN LADY BULLDOG #10 Taylor Schram goes up for shot under the basket in a game on the road in Fleming earlier this season.

For the second time this season the Haxtun Lady Bulldogs picked up a win over the Caliche Lady Buffaloes. This time, Haxtun earned the win on the road at the home of the Lady Buffs. The win puts the team at 5-8 overall with just a handful of games left on the regular schedule.

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Caliche High School where they kicked things off with an 18-5 lead after the first quarter of play. Defensively, Haxtun held the Lady Buffs to single digits, just eight points in the second quarter, to hold onto a 36-13 advantage at half time.

Scoring for both teams evened out in the third as the Lady Bulldogs managed 11 points versus Caliche's 17. Haxtun put 12 points on the board in the final quarter to roll to a 59-48 win.

"Caliche was a great game for us. The girls came out strong and set the tone for the whole game," said Head Coach Arlan Scholl. "We finally shot the ball a little better and I was proud of our offensive execution as well as our constant defensive pressure."

Senior Taylor Schram and sophomore Cassidy Goddard led the Lady Bulldogs in the scoring department, each with 18 points. Senior Allie Thompson also registered double-digits with 12 points on the night. Kelsie Hadeen tallied six points followed by K'lyn Bornhoft with four.

Goddard and Thompson led under the basket, each pulling down 12 rebounds. Thompson earned hers with an even split, six on defense and six on offense. Goddard pulled down eight on offense and four on defense.

Schram registered six assists and six steals.

Earlier in the week, the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Nebraska to take on the Lady Longhorns of Chase County. Haxtun fell in the mid-week match up, 49-25.

Schram led the Lady Bulldogs in points, putting eight on the board. Goddard registered four points as did freshman Bobbi Starkebaum.

Thompson and Goddard each brought down seven rebounds against Chase County. Thompson pulled down six on defense and one on offense for her seven. Goddard had four offensive rebounds and four defensive.

Schram tallied four assists and three steals. Bornhoft and Goddard each registered two steals on the night.

"Our Chase County game was a difficult one, having to compete against one of Nebraska's best teams in their class," Scholl said. "We played good defense and held their top scorer from getting her way."

This week the Lady Bulldogs took on Briggsdale on the road Tuesday night at Northeastern Junior College.

The outcome of that contest was not available as of press time. Watch next week's issue of the Herald for more on that contest.

On Friday, Haxtun is set to travel again, this time to Wray, for a match up with the Lady Eagles. MaxPreps has Wray listed with the same overall record as the Lady Buldlogs, 5-8. Wray is currently on a four-game losing streak with recent competitions against Holyoke, Idalia, Yuma and Limon.
