HAXTUN SENIOR K'lyn Bornhoft, #4, comes down with a rebound at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling in a contest with Briggsdale last week.

As the regular season winds down the Lady Bulldogs are preparing for the final four games remaining on their schedule before post season action begins. Last week, Haxtun took the court in two contests facing off with Briggsdale and Wray; both high ranking teams in their respective classifications.

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Sterling to meet up with the Briggsdale Lady Falcons at Northeastern Junior College for a mid-week match up. The 1A top ranked Falcons jumped to an early 22-9 lead in the first quarter and added another 18 to the score in the second to hold a healthy lead at half time. Briggsdale went on to earn the 71-38 win.

Sophomore Cassidy Goddard led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points on Tuesday in Sterling. Senior Taylor Schram added nine points followed by Allie Thompson and Kelsie Hadeen, each with four.

Thompson pulled down eight rebounds under the basket, the team high. Senior K'lyn Bornhoft registered six total rebounds followed by Goddard with four.

Schram notched six assists and five steals on the night. Thompson and Bornhoft each tallied two steals.

Just three nights later, the Lady Bulldogs hit the road again, this time south to take on the Lady Eagles from Wray. Haxtun put 12 points on the board in the first quarter, leaving them behind the home team by just three heading into the second. A slower second quarter left the Lady Bulldogs down by just over a dozen at half time.

Haxtun racked up 15 points in the third, two more than Wray, to narrow in on the gap. In the fourth and final the Lady Eagles dialed in on the intensity to nab a 68-46 victory.

For the second consecutive contest, Goddard led her team in points, this time with 16. Schram registered 11 points while Thompson and Bornhoft each put up five.

Goddard earned a double-double while also pulling down double-digits in the rebound department. She nabbed six on offense and five on defense for a total of 11. Freshman Bobbi Starkebaum pulled down seven followed by Thompson and Schram, who each brought down six.

Bornhoft registered seven assists and five steals in Wray.

This week the Lady Bulldogs will play on their home court Thursday evening as they host the Lady Rams from Akron. According to MaxPreps, Akron is currently 10-5 overall. On Friday, Haxtun takes the road for a match up with the Lady Rams in Merino. Merino currently holds a 11-4 overall record.
