In their final regular season game, the Fleming Lady Wildcats suffered at 57-49 loss at the home of 2A's Sedgwick County Lady Cougars.

The then 12-5, sixth-ranked 2A team according to Colorado High School Activities Association rankings, Lady Cougars opened with just a two-point advantage over the visiting Lady Wildcats last Thursday. Fleming entered in the number four spot in 1A at 15-2 overall.

The home team bested the Lady Wildcats by eight points in the second quarter to take a 10-point lead before the close of the half, 35-25.

Scoring evened out once again in the third quarter and saw Fleming down by another two to trail by 12 heading into the final quarter, 44-32. Despite adding four more than the home team in the fourth, 17-13, the Lady Wildcats fell at the final horn, 57-49, for their third loss on the season.

Lady Wildcat senior Whitney Chintala led her team on the scoreboard with 15 points. She shot 75 percent from the free-throw line for three and made the remaining 12 on two-point shots. Chintala also made a leading contribution under the net with seven rebounds.

Sophomore Madi Serrato followed in the points category with nine. She also shot 75 percent from the charity stripe for three points and added six off three-pointers.

Junior Kally Kirkwood led the Lady Wildcats in boards bringing down eight. She grabbed six defensive and two offensive rebounds for the night.

The Lady Wildcats entered District 4 action on Tuesday, Feb. 22 as the number two seed behind Briggsdale. Fleming took on seventh ranked Weldon Valley at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling. Results of that game were not available as of press time.

A win would put the Lady Wildcats in a semifinal contest against the winner of a number three Merino versus number six Prairie contest also held on Tuesday. That semifinal game is set for Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. with the Championship slated for Saturday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. All games of the District 4 Tournament are set to be played at NJC.

A loss on Tuesday would end the Lady Wildcats' season. A loss in Thursday's semifinal game would put them in a contest for third at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
