Outside of some unsettled weather early in the week, conditions were good enough to see competition is multiple sports in the past seven days. Some of the top performances during that time came on the golf course and in track and field.

Swink's girls golf team took home the title at last Thursday's Rocky Ford Invitational, as the Lions were 24 strokes better than the hosts, who finished second. Kinzie Ensor was the low individual, shooting a 92 to lead Swink. Teammate Emma Hanagan tied for third with Rocky Ford's Julianna Chavez, 16 strokes back.

Rye's Emma Garcia was second, one stroke in front of Hanagan and Chavez. Jenna Kienitz gave Rocky Ford the last spot in the top five. Fowler's Alyssa Maestas tied with Lamar's Tala Settles for eighth.

Earlier in the week, it was Holyoke taking the team title at its own event on Tuesday. The Dragons posted a team score of 303, 14 shots better than second place Brush and 18 in front of Yuma. Emma Thompson shot an 88 to keep the individual title in Holyoke, while Brush freshman Macie Doherty was second with a 96.

Washington County got top five performances from Kendall Velder (97) and Mary Dracon (99). Yuma's Tannah Gates (98) was sandwiched between those two. The rest of the top 10 included Wray's Kaitlyn Kramer, Burlington's Anna Marie Schaal, Haley Ostwald of Brush, the Holyoke duo of Erin Andersen and Grace Roberts, and Jailyn Mekelburg from Yuma, who tied with Roberts.

Brush hosted a tournament on Monday, with Burlington, Fort Morgan, Holyoke, Stratton, Washington County, Wray and Yuma all participating on the varsity side of things. Arickaree, in its first year of fielding a program, was part of the JV field.

Other events this week included the Trinidad Lady Miner Invitational on Tuesday, with a field comprised of the hosts, Swink, Fowler, Lamar, La Junta and Rye, as well as a few others from outside of the area. Fowler will host its own tournament on Thursday, while Burlington hosts most of the northeastern teams on Friday. Lamar has its invitational on Monday of next week.

Windy conditions prevailed on Friday for the Wiggins Invitational track meet, but that wasn't enough to prevent two impressive duels in the boys shot and discus. Mohamed Ibrahim and younger brother Laith, both from Wiggins, and Wray's Bryant Schoenthal put on a throwing display in the two events. Mo took the titles in both, uncorking a top toss of 185 feet two inches in the discus, a mark that is ranked eighth in the country, while also recording a winning heave of 56'03” in the shot. Schoenthal was second in both, and Laith took third in each event.

Limon's Gabe Schubarth, who broke the school record in the long jump the week before, added another win in the event, just edging out Westin Filter from Weldon Valley. Filter took the crown in the high jump, clearing five feet, 10 inches. Burlington's Treece Hines was second. Hines added another second place finish in the 110 meter hurdles and also grabbed first in the 300 hurdles. Wiggins saw sophomore Cade Green sweep the distance races, winning the 800, 1600 and 3200. Classmate Isaac Reed was second in the 800 and 3200. Fort Morgan's Caleb Siegling prevented Reed from making it a 1-2 finish for the Tigers in the 1600, as the junior took second for the Mustangs in that race. Reed was third.

Marely Del Campo and Elena Arteaga combined to take first for Fort Morgan in the girls' sprints. Del Campo won the 100 and 200, while Arteaga took the 400. Sedgwick County's Emily Fowler doubled up in the hurdles, winning both the 100 and 300. Prairie's Kaydence Fraser was second in the 100, with Brush's Erika Sanchez taking third. They flipped in the 300.

Burlington got a first place finish from Trinitee Holmes in the high jump, while Holyoke swept the top spot in both the shot and discus. Laurent Herman won the disc and finished second to teammate Corey Koellner in the shot. Koellner was third in the discus. Wray's Sydnee Cheek backed up her win in the pole vault at the Yuma Early Qualifier by winning the event again as the only competitor to surpass eight feet. Cheek cleared nine feet, 2 inches.

Yuma and Sterling both took part in the Weld County Rebel Round-up on Friday. Yuma finished second in the team standings in both boys and girls, with Sterling coming in third in both. Elizabeth took both titles.

Beau Tate helped pace the Indians with wins in both the 110s and 300 hurdles, while Jaxson Lungwitz and Daman Thornton took first in the triple jump and long jump, respectively. Nash Richardson added second place finishes in the 300 hurdles and pole vault. Seeing his first action of the season, reigning 2A Male Track Athlete of the Year, Clay Robinson took second in the 100 meters. Yuma's ladies grabbed a title in the sprint medley relay, while securing second in both the 400 and 1,600 meter relays. They were third in the 800 relay. Samantha Wells was their top individual finisher on the day, as she was second in the discus.

Emerie Ross grabbed a pair of ones for the Sterling ladies, as she took titles in the 200 and long jump. Sterling also took first in the 400 relay. The Tigers swept that relay, as the boys also won the event. Xander Burns was their lone individual champion on the day, as he won the pole vault.

The Lamar girls soccer team enjoyed a very successful week, going 3-0 to improve to 4-0 overall. The Savages got two goals from Anna Ramirez to defeat Atlas Prep 3-2 last Tuesday and she set up Joslynn Salazar for the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Sterling on Thursday. Julissa Adan stopped all four shots in that shutout. The Savages wrapped up the week by beating Buena Vista 2-1 on Saturday, with Jamilet Cruz scoring twice in the second half to overcome the one goal deficit at the half. After a match with Fountain Valley on Tuesday, Lamar will visit Ellicott on Thursday.

For Sterling, that was one of two 1-0 losses on the week, as the Tigers also fell to Fort Morgan by that same tally. Madison Mustain stopped eight of nine shots in the loss. The Tigers entered the week 1-4 overall, riding a two-match skid. They hosted Resurrection Christian on Tuesday and will visit Liberty Common on Thursday. Both are league contests.

Turning focus to the diamond, Fort Morgan split a pair with Thompson Valley, dropping a 7-3 decision on the road last Thursday, and then winning 11-1 at home on Friday. Joseph Laydon drove in four in Friday's win. Frank Ortega earned the win by allowing one earned run on three hits over five innings. He struck out five and walked one for the Mustangs, who began this week with a 7-2 mark.

Sterling ran its winning streak to six with victories over Valley (8-0, 15-1) sandwiched around an 8-3 win over Yuma. Noah Soper struck out nine and walked two in a complete game two-hitter in the first win over Valley. He also homered in the contest, as did Jackson Keil. The Tigers ran wild on the base paths in the come from behind win over Yuma, collecting 15 stolen bases. They scored the final seven runs after trailing 3-1 through 2.5 innings.

Burlington had to wait until just about everyone else had games under their belts before finally getting to play on Saturday. The Cougars had seen weather postponements three times before being able to get a doubleheader with Fowler in the books. The Cougars got a strong effort from Ty Marcum in the first game, which they won 17-6. In game two, Fowler struck for five in the bottom of the first before the Cougars reeled off 15 straight runs. They went on to take that contest 19-11.

Granada swept its doubleheader with Stratton on Friday, getting a 4-2 win in the opener behind Dominic Coleman, who struck out 11 and hit a solo shot to give himself an early 1-0 lead. John Hainer also homered in that contest. The second game was lopsided, with the Bobcats sending 24 hitters to the plate in the bottom of the first. They scored 18 runs and left the bases loaded. The Bobcats went on to claim a 20-5 win.

Holly got three strong pitching performances over the weekend, beginning with a five inning no-hitter from Dakota Eaton on Friday against Cheyenne Wells. Eaton stuck out 11 and allowed two walks, while also going 2-2 at the plate with an RBI in the 8-0 win. The Wildcats won the nightcap 10-2, as five pitchers scattered three hits. On Saturday, it was Devin Eaton and Julian Terrazas combining on a no-hitter in a 12-0 win over Las Animas. The Wildcats also got a combined no-hitter from Terrazas and Dominique Maldonado on Tuesday in a 14-0 shutout against Springfield. They've won four straight entering this week.
