A county-wide meeting of farmers and businessmen interested in rural electrification under the REA was held in Paoli Saturday night. A kilowatt hour, which can be delivered to the farm for approximately two cents, is equivalent to one-half gallon of gasoline and will do the same work. Eph Johnson and Paoli was elected temporary chairman of the group of volunteers.

Crew: Alberta Kassing, Eva Pillard, Edna Lucke, Geraldine Dee, Erma Banks, Alice Hadeen, Frank Janosec, Alfred Dillehay, Reinder DeBuhr, Edith Damrow, Gwendolyn Erickson, Marcella Carpenter and Jean Beckman. The play was directed by Miss Catherine Kennedy.

April 16, 1952

Mrs. John (Chloe Lillian Sherman) Nell, 57 years, seven months and 22 days, passed away on April 19, 1952. She is survived by her husband John Nell, and two daughters, Mrs. Wilma Mills of Denver, and Mrs. Margie Fulcher of Amherst.

Miss Margaret Pond and Glenn Skold, senior students in the Haxtun High School, were named winners in the first annual youth leadership contest sponsored by the Sterling Elks Lodge.

Fleming News - Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Lambert for Easter dinner were Mrs. Della McIntyre and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Prouty of Dailey, and Mr. and Mrs. Siebert Olson of Haxtun.

Mrs. Bessie Merritt of Denver and Mrs. Flora Orth of Grand Junction spent last Tuesday and Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon G. Price in Haxtun. The three ladies are sisters.

Sunday dinner guests a week ago of Mrs. Celia Exstrom were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Exstrom, Tammie, Cindy and Bobby, and Miss Connie Leachman, all of Sterling.

April 16, 1992

When Gay McDaniel takes her oath of office on April 20, she becomes the first woman to serve as Haxtun's mayor. She has served for 12 years on Haxtun's town board.

Following his election to mayor, Larry Wisdom resigned his trustee seat on the Fleming Town Board. The board immediately appointed Carl Cheramy, the fourth runner-up in last Tuesday's board elections, to finish Wisdom's two years on the board.


Seniors on Haxtun's superintendent's honor roll: Cathy Brasby and Damion Mosher. Seniors on the principal's honor roll: Becky Braun, Justin McDaniel, Devin Newth, Roger Olson, Ann Saakain, Mark Salvador, Staci Starkebaum and Rod Workman.

Tate Michael struts his stuff with Maggie Kilgour Saturday night during grand march activities. Michael and Kilgour were honorary crown bearers for Haxtun High School's 2012 "Rocking in the Fifties" prom.

Haxtun High School 2012 Prom Queen Marquel Gueck and King Cody Fix were crowned during grand march ceremonies on Saturday, April 14. Other members of the court included Luke Davis, Brent Vasa, Karci Lockwood and Elizabeth Nicks.
