To qualify to participate in Girls State, girls must be in their junior year of high school. The Colorado Girls State program is provided to qualified girls free of charge.

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #90 of Holyoke recently announced that Hunter Donovan, Haxtun, was selected to attend The Department of Colorado Girls State for 2022. Hunter attends Fleming High School and applied through the on-line application forms of the State Department American Legion Auxiliary.

Hunter's application stated that she has a passion for government and leadership and wants to expand on that knowledge and develop various life skills. She said she was excited to attend this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and to learn how to be a better leader will give her a head start on her future. Meeting girls from across the State will establish lifetime connections and lasting friendships along with future opportunities in career advancement.
