July 28, 1937

Arvid Wedin of Haxtun, a junior in the College of Engineering at the University of Colorado, placed on the university's list of those making an average of B-plus or more during the spring term.

A group of Haxtun friends entertained at a delightful covered-dish lawn party Tuesday evening, complimentary to Mr. and Mrs. Earl E. House and children of Price, Utah. Guests included Dr. and Mrs. J.H. McKnight and Mr. and and Mrs. Earl C. Donaldson and "Bud" of Sterling; Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Jankovsky and children, Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Meakins and children, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Green and son, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Krueger and son William, and Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Radford and son Frank.

A shower was given last week at the home of Mrs. Guy Dinsmore for Mrs. Andrew Davis. A pleasant afternoon was enjoyed and luncheon was served.

July 30, 1952

Hospital News - Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Anderson are the parents of a baby girl born Tuesday. She weighed nine pounds and four ounces.


Death - Second Lt. Leo H. Kupka, 27, Tama, Iowa, July 25. He was killed in an airplane crackup Saturday at Las Vegas. Haxtun relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dee, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Dee, and Mr. and Mrs. D.H. Green Sr.

Fairfield News - Little Darwin Jeffers received a deep cut in his had while playing last week, which necessitated several stitches being taken.

45 Years Ago

July 28, 1977

Fleming News - Mr. and Mrs. Dale Lindstrom returned to Fleming from Oklahoma Saturday night. On Sunday they went to a church in Fort Collins where they presented a film showing their work as agricultural missionaries in Venezuela.


Vera Kloepfer and Karen Smith were Wednesday evening supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Augenstein.

July 29, 1992

Thursday night's storm left parts of Haxtun without electricity for approximately three and a half hours. No tornado was spotted, according to Haxtun police chief Tom Davis, but high winds took down power lines at the Tip Top Motel and Lounge and at the home of Juanita Kirkland. A tree hit by lightning fell on a third power line at the residence of Dennis Ulmer.

Old-Fashioned Saturday Night: Mayor's choice and winner in the pickup division was a 1952 Ford pickup owned by Jared Kurtzer, 15, a sophomore at Haxtun High School, who performed the job of restoration himself.


Sgt. Terry G. Burmester, a 1987 graduate of Haxtun High School, has been named Marine of the Year. He is serving in Okinawa, Japan.

Haxtun Corn Festival's theme, "The Joys of Country Living." A special carriage has been hired to carry grand marshals Mary Miller and Jessie Scott. Event co-chairman Margo Kroeger says these women were chosen because of their contributions to rural life. Colleen Lockwood also co-chairs the even.

July 25, 1912

Haxtun's 25th annual Old-Fashioned Saturday Night drew 59 entrants in the car show and hundreds of others made appearances to Kurtzer's demo day, the poker run, hog roast and the burnout contest.

Car show results are as follows: Muscle, Charlie and Lola Jordan, 1966 Chevelle; Late Model, Jared Kurtzer, 1993 Chevy Corvette; Antique, In honor of Harold Firme, Larry Schaefer, 1955 T-Bird; Street Rod: Dan and Dorothy Albrandt, 1946 Chevy Coupe; Motorcycle, Vickie Fuesz, V-Rod trike; Pickup, Ryan Kurtzer, 1972 GMC: Classic, Ken Hodges, 1966 Corvette; Vintage Motorcycle, Mike Ensminger, with his grandfather Lloyd Ensminger's 1948 Harley; School-age, Cody Fix, 2001 Ford Mustang Convertible; People's Choice, Mark and MellaDee Hagemann, 1952 Studebaker; Best of Show, Charlie and Lola Jordan, 1966 Chevelle; Longest Drive, Gary and Rose Dick, Fort Collins.
