Law enforcement officials confirmed sightings of a mountain lion around Haxtun last week. Officers from the Haxtun Police Department spotted the mountain lion on Highway 6 and Cooper Street near the Haxtun Locker Plant last Monday.

According to Tanya Mayhew, Haxtun Police Chief, the mountain lion was walking along Highway 6 at about 10:30 at night. The officers, she said, were able to get a good enough look at the animal to confirm that it was a mountain lion. It is described as approximately six feet long, from its head to the tip of its tail, and is very muscular.
