Oct. 6, 1937

Breakfast with friends in San Francisco, Calif., this morning, dinner at Denver at noon with his mother, Mrs. J.W. Kinzie, and supper in Haxtun this evening with Dr. and Mrs. Kinzie was the experience today of Lieut. George Kinzie, a former Haxtun young man. Lieut. Kinzie, who is a member of the Army Air Corps, flew to Colorado for a visit with his parents at Haxtun.

Miss Helen Hurst and Mr. Virgil Heiny were united in marriage on Sunday, Sept. 12, at Crook. The ceremony was performed at two o'clock at the Assembly of God Church in Crook by the pastor.

Picutred: Capt. George Eyston and his new racing car, in which he will attempt to better the world speed record of 301 miles per hour, held by Sir Malcom Campell, shown at Chiswich, England. The new speed tests will be made at Salt Lake City, Utah.

Oct. 8, 1952

Hospital News - Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Cheramy of Paoli are the parents of a baby girl born Saturday. She weighed three pounds and 15 ounces and has been named Vicki Jean.

Miss Helen Hebbel of Peetz became the bride of Howard Gibbs at a lovely home wedding Sunday afternoon.

The state highway crew started oiling the highway north of town this week after working for the past few weeks to get it ready for the oil coat. The oiling extends four miles north and about two miles east. It is also being oiled a short distance west at the four-mile corner. The road will have a two-inch oil mat cover.

Oct. 6, 1977

Nothing but rubble was left after two semi-trailer trucks crashed head-on Thursday on U.S. 6 four miles west of Fleming. The cabs burst into flames on impact and one man, Raymond "Randy" Leslie Elliot, 23, Peetz, was killed in the collision. Both trucks were totally demolished, with damages estimated at $45,000 for each.

Patricia Allen and Max Fetzer were crowned as homecoming queen and king Friday during halftime of the Haxtun-Caliche football game. The Bulldogs lost the Homecoming outing, 10-0.

The newly drilled water well in Paoli is expected to produce about 120 gallons of water per minunte, which is more than adequate for the town's needs, according to engineer Louis Harmon. The well was drilled Saturday and construction on the new water system is expected to get underway immediately. The well should cost Paoli $5,500, while the distribution system will add on another $34,220 to the total. The town must also pay for a $1,050 chlorinator and for $1,500 in engineering fees.

Corn Festival draws record crowd: Mother Nature wore her most fashionable Indian Summer attire for Haxtun's 71st annual Corn Festival last weekend. Margo Kroeger and Colleen Lockwood co-chaired the event for the second year.

Dryland corn king: Steve Hofmeister; irrigated corn king, Mark Gueck; sunflower king, Bill Fuesz; wheat king, Reon Chaney.

Haxtun homecoming royalty pictured: King Jamie Lueth and Queen Crisa McClain were crowned during halftime Friday night.

The Phillips County Commissioners have declared this week as Celebrate 4-H in Phillips County in celebration of National 4-H Week, Oct. 1-7.

Fleming's Trevor Chintala was recently honored as an IBM High School Hero of the Week.

Haxtun Mayor, Steve Bahnsen and Councilman Todd Workman officially opened Haxtun's main street before the 91st annual Corn Festival Parade on Saturday, Sept. 29 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The main street renovation was completed earlier this year.
