Oct. 13, 1937

G.W. Gordon, president of the Haxtun State Bank, was notified Monday morning by the Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Mo., that the bank's membership in the Federal Reserve System had been confirmed. The directors of the Haxtun institution besides Gordon, J.A. Brooks, C.J. Mosier, C.L. Reynolds and M.W. Gordon.

Highland Center News – Leo Butte left to join the CCC last Wednesday. His parents have received word that he is stationed at Red Feather Lakes.

Among the Haxtun hunters, who left for the mountains this week to hunt deer or elk are Ejner Hansen, Lawrence Ahnstedt, A.M. Ahnstedt, George Mutchie, Boyd Anderson, S.J. Meekins, R.L. Scott, Grover K. Clark, Rex Meekins, Roger Grauberger, George Grauberger, Ivan Brooks, Keith Brooks, George W. Miller, Lee Schneider, Don Gebhard, George Wengert, Elmer Miller, Carl Miller, and J.J. Sturgis.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday for Billy Gene, the infant son, of Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Wisdom. He was born on Oct.10, and passed away on Oct. 11.

Mrs. Shelton Smith, Mrs. Willard Madsen, Mrs. Harvey Olson and Mrs. Henry Dee were callers at the home of Mrs. Keith Knode Monday evening to honor the birthday anniversaries of Mrs. Knode and Mrs. Eldon Johnson, who was also present.

Joseph W. Price, 83, Haxtun resident for the past 40 years, passed away at his home Oct. 14. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Price, and six sons and four daughters: Clarence and Archie Price, Los Angeles, Calif .; Lee Price, Sidney, Neb .; Mrs. Arlie Warren, San Pedro, Calif .; George Price, Redondo Beach, Calif .; Vernon, Price, Haxtun; Floyd Price, Martin City, Calif .; Mrs. Clara Gretch, Sedgwick; Mrs. Myrtle Northrup, Garden City, Mo .; and Mrs. Florence Cheramy, Haxtun; also 32 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Oct. 13, 1977

District Judge Earl A. Warrington, 61, Sterling, died Friday morning, at a Sterling hospital following an apparent heart attack. He had been hospitalized since Labor Day.

Haxtun FFA Chapter wins top awards at state contests: Todd Smith, and Roger Burton, Gold, team award, agricultural mechanics; Darry Stansbury and Troy Whitmore, superior ratings, crops, plus gold team award; Bill Garretson and Scott Meekins, gold rating, land judging; and Kibby Brazelton, silver. Mitch Miller, Max Fetzer and Chad Fix combined to win a gold horse judging award. Bill Renzelman, gold, livestock judging. Kevin Constance, superior, swine judging. Norm Tanner and Brian Biesemeier, dairy judging, superior ratings.

Melissa Gregory has been selected artist of the month for September at Haxtun school. Her winning project is a dark pencil drawing of a little boy in an old-fashioned tub, wearing a graduates cap and gown. She is in her second year of art and is the daughter of Dora Gregory.

For the first time in close to 10 years Haxtun has a pharmacy. Abts Pharmacy opened its doors in Haxtun on Saturday, Sept. 22 with a grand opening celebration. The pharmacy is located just inside the main doors of Haxtun Hospital at 235 W. Fletcher Street.

Haxtun's newest main street business specializes in nursing and physical therapy services to hep patients remain in their home. The business, Colorado Health Connections, opened on Aug. 30.
