Softball players recognized

HAXTUN SOFTBALL players earning post season honors for their contribution to the Holyoke Lady Dragon team this season are pictured (l-r), Destanie Engle, Samantha Seger and Aliyah Engle.

Three Haxtun athletes were recently recognized for their efforts on the Holyoke Lady Dragon softball team. The Lady Dragons went 11-13 overall in their 2022 season. The team held a 4-2 league record, which advanced them to the 3A Regional tournament in mid-October.

Seniors Aliyah Engle and Destanie Engle were named All-Conference. Junior Samantha Seger received All-Conference, Honorable Mention.

Destanie Engle, Lady Dragons catcher, played in 72 games throughout her high school career. She earned a .3030 batting average along with a .472 on base percentage. Engle tallied 33 hits and 18 runs batted in.

Her twin sister, Aliyah Engle, a pitcher, earned 15 wins on the mound throughout four softball season in high school. She pitched 219 innings racking up a total of 192 strikeouts. Engle also had a .896 fielding percentage.

Seger, who plays third base for the Lady Dragons, holds a .389 batting average as well as a .457 on base percentage. In the 2022 season, she tallied 28 hits, 14 RBIs and 28 runs. Seger earned a .850 fielding percentage in her junior season.
