Mrs. Emery Price entertained a number of guests Sunday in honor of the birthday anniversary of Mr. Price's father, D. Price. Guests who enjoyed the affair were Mr. and Mrs. Mike Gretch and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Price and family of Yuma, Mr. and Mrs. James Price and family of Haxtun, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cheramy. A venison dinner was served the guests.

Announcing the intention of quitting the hardware business this week, the Boyd Hardware Company of Haxtun is offering to the public, the entire stock and fixtures of the hardware store at greatly reduced prices for the next 20 days. The sale will be under the direct supervision of Mr. G.E. Ludwig, who represents a well-known sales firm of Lincoln, Nebr. Prizes offered in the contest include a beautiful bedroom suite, an overstaffed lounge chair, an automatic waffle iron, and a beautiful 52 piece set of dishes.

Nov. 5, 1976

General Dwight D. Eisenhower wins the race for President of the United States in the General Election held Tuesday, Nov. 4. His victory came with landslide proportions and gave the nation the first Republican president in 20 years.

Fleming News - The Matinee Club held its Halloween party on Saturday in the VFW Hall. Refreshments were served to Mrs. and Madames Lloyd Rowan, Laddie Burton, Carl Rowan, Kenneth Wertz, Tom Sibbitt, Don Bodeen, Delmar Kennedy, Ray Swedlund, Bud Kinzie, Bob Lippitt, Harry Hulse, Charles Harmon, and Austin Bledsoe.

Nov. 3, 1977

Sterling has lodged a bid with the United States government to receive a loan to build a gasohol plant in the community, which would affect farmers in a 100-mile radius around Sterling. Each of the four planned pilot gasohol plants in the U.S. is expected to produce about 20 million gallons per year when in operation.

After considering 187 prospects, Haxtun's fish pond board settled on the name, Gun Club Lake for the fishing lake now under construction southwest of town. According to Alice Bamford, board member, the groups logic was that "it would probably end up being called that anyway, and it's easy to say." Winners in the name contest were Beau Starkebaum and Casey Wolff.


Haxtun Volunteer Fire Department Halloween party winners were: three and under, Mallory Green, Dalmatian; four to kindergarten, Lisa Harms, grape; first grade, Jeffrey Harms, Dracula; second grade, Braden Ham, house; third grade, Jason Greenhand, dice; fourth grade, Britney Northrup, Betsy Ross; fifth grade, Ross Edwards, Jason.

The Fleming Lady Wildcats competed in a busy week of Districts last week at Northeastern Junior College. The team played five matches in three days with one loss to finish at number two in the 1A District Four competition.
