Nov. 10, 1937

The cheese factory at Haxtun will be reopened in the near future under the management of Mr. Hopperdietzel of Merino, who was leased the plant from C.H. Barker. He is ready to begin operation of the factory as soon as he can secure two drivers with trucks to pick up the milk at the farm and deliver it to the factory. He is also operating cheese factories at Merino and Brush.

Rattlesnake hunting has become a pastime as well as a sport for many local hunters during the past few weeks. Hardly a day has passed that hunters have not reported the killing of many of the poisonous reptiles in the sandhills northwest of Haxtun. Several hundred have been killed in the Burt pasture north of Haxtun.

Nov. 12, 1952

Fleming News - One of the sixth grade students brought a prize for the biology class. It is a live black, widow spider, which he captured from the side of a building downtown with the aid of a jar and a stick.

Fairfield News ­- J. Skold passed his 70th birthday anniversary Thursday. His condition has become more critical this week.

Hospital News - Non-skid rubber stair treads were recently put on the stairs at Haxtun hospital. These were a gift from Harold Pond, who also installed them. Mrs. Cecyle Haney, superintendent of the hospital, wishes to thank Mr. Pond for his generosity.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ruch, wish to announce the arrival of Douglas Paul in their home, Friday, Nov. 7. He was 11 days old and weighed nine pounds and 11 ounces.

Nov. 10, 1977

The first notice that winter was eminent came Tuesday when a snowstorm dropped temperatures into the 20s and also dumped several inches of wet snow on Haxtun. Whipping wins with the snow reduced visibility Tuesday afternoon.

All-conference selections from the Haxtun volleyball team for the LPAA were released this week by coach Jodi Heermann. Patricia Allen and Tammy Ridenour received honorable mention. Kari Starkebaum and Kathy Anderson were selected for the all-conference team.

Fleming news – Mrs. Bud Kinzie presented her piano students in a recital Sunday afternoon with these students, Ricky O'Mara, Jimmy O'Mara, Wendy Barkley, Traci Chandler, Tammy Chandler, Kelly Carwin, Dana Sonnenberg, Joni Loos, Chris Kues, Sheila Woods and Darla Langdon.

Nov. 11, 1992

Shortly after the turn of the century, Frank Salvador homesteaded in Phillips county. Nearly a century later, his influence remains in the blood of his descendants, and in the writings of Ron Hansen, an author who also teaches at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He is a step-grandson of the late Frank Salvador.

Eighth graders Brenda Jeffers and Dusty Ricker spread a coat of sealer on benches used by downtown visitors. The community service project is part of earning a trip to Martin Luther King Middle School in Denver later this year. Gia Gillotte and Crystal Lueth also helped with the benches.

Nov. 7, 2012

Following a quarterfinal win over Pawnee last Friday on their home field, the Fleming Wildcats are set to take on Hi-Plains on the road this week for a chance to defend their State Title.

Fleming Head Football Coach John King earned his 100th win with the Wildcats in their recent cross divisional victory over the Bethune Bobcats. King has coached at Fleming for a total of 15 season including last year's 6-man State Championship team, the first in the school's history.
