KALLY KIRKWOOD, seated, a Fleming High School senior signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Chadron State College last week. Pictured with Kally at her signing ceremony are her family and coaches (l-r), Jolene Kirkwood, Megan Chintala, Kylie Chamberlain, Treyson Kirkwood and Randy Kirkwood.

Fleming's Kally Kirkwood will head to Chadron State College in Chadron, Neb. next year to play volleyball for the Lady Eagles. Kirkwood signed a letter of intent surrounded by her current coaching team, family and friends last Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the Fleming School/Community Library.

Kirkwood has achieved a successful and decorated high school volleyball career which came to a close at last weekend's State Volleyball Tournament in Denver.

"Kally is a tremendous athlete with the ability to score offensively," said Chadron Lady Eagles Head Coach Jennifer Stadler. "We wanted to bring in some attackers with the ability to put the ball away and Kally's track record proves just that."

Kirkwood celebrated her 1,600th career kill mid-season this year. Incomplete stats on MaxPreps list her at 1,658 prior to this year's four-match State Tournament with well over 400 of those in her senior season.

In addition to her leading offensive contributions at the net, Kirkwood consistently puts up top numbers in all categories from each position on the court.

This year alone, Kirkwood assisted the Lady Wildcat hitters with 214 sets. She hit 385 in the assist category last year and closes her career with over 1,300 assists.

Defensively, Kirkwood put up 243 digs throughout her final season and the Regional Tournament. She averaged three digs per set this year and closes with 926 total.

She tallied 51 total blocks at the net this year - 11 of those solo - and also added 34 aces this season.

"She has a lot of passion, hard work ethic and provides depth at the net for us," Stadler said.

Kirkwood is one of five seniors on this year's squad who expects to graduate from Fleming High School this spring. The senior members of the group have accumulated 90 match wins with just 19 match losses. They've competed in the 1A State Championship for all four years of their career and earned one State Championship title during their freshman season.

Kirkwood said she is considering a major in nutrition while at Chadron, but is keeping her options open for now.

"We are excited to see what Kally can do at the next level," Stadler concluded.
