Nov. 24, 1937

The J.J. Playmate Club met at the home of Mary Jane Jankovsky on Saturday, Nov. 20. During the afternoon, the members embroidered. Those present were Joan Bentson, Elaine Barker, Mary Ellen Bamford, Emma Jean Baker, Dolores Thornhill, Jaralee Meekins, Sarah Jean Beedle, Maxine Work and Mrs. Meyer.

Mr. and Mrs. C.C. McCune will spend Thanksgiving Day with relatives in Denver and attend the Denver University/Boulder University football game Thursday afternoon.

North County Line News – Mr. and Mrs. Alvy Garretson and family visited Sunday afternoon at the Frank Bjorklun home to get acquainted with the new baby.

70 Years Ago

Nov. 26, 1952

Mrs. John Sack, a former pioneer resident of the Haxtun community, passed away in San Diego, Calif., Nov. 13, at the age of 70 years and two months. The Sack family moved to the Haxtun community from Hastings, Neb. in 1909 and homesteaded northwest of town. One son, Edwards Sack, lives at Haxtun.


New Haven News – Several of the men laid the asphalt tile in the basement of the church Friday afternoon.

New Haven News – Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilson are the parents of a baby boy born Nov. 22 in a Sterling hospital.

Nov. 24, 1977

Issues analyzed at town meeting Monday: Those attending Haxtun's Town meeting paid close attention to workshop leader, Gary Forbes. Those in attendance wrote a town song, developed a slogan and symbol and identified several issues that should be dealt with by the town.

Carolee Kurtzer, November Artist of the Month, displays her pencil drawing of a truck cab. A junior and Haxtun High School, she is part of an art class instructed by Val Gillotte.


Fleming News – Mr. and Mrs. Dorvin Schepler, Mr. and Mrs., Don Langdon, and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Wertz attended the State Soil Conservation Convention at the Regency Hotel in Denver.

Nov. 25, 1992

The ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday at the Phillips County Courthouse open house was performed by Heginbotham trustees Ted Clark, Josephine McWilliams and Dave Colver. The open house, celebrates Phase II of courthouse remodeling, including office space for the county clerk in the basement. An elevator was added to the east side of the courthouse in Phase I of construction in 1990.

The Town of Haxtun will get $2,500 from gaming proceeds through the Colorado Historical Society to help pay for repairs needed on the historic Town Hall building.


All conference honors were bestowed on two Fleming Lady Wildcats for the 1992 volleyball season, senior Candace Mekelburg, and sophomore Clarissa Lousberg. Honorable mention was earned by Blake Kelly, senior, and Molly Felzien, junior.

Five Lady Bulldogs, earn all conference honors: players, Beth Wernsman, Crisa McClain and Dana Salvador, all seniors. Honorable mention, Jennifer Waite, senior, and Jamie Brundige, junior.

Nov. 21, 2012

They did it again. For the second year in a row, the Fleming Wildcats took the 6-Man State Title with a perfect record. Saturday's win over the Eads Eagles added the 24th win to the Wildcats' streak.
