Sedgwick County/Fleming wrestlers traveled to Oxford, Neb. to participate in the Southern Valley Invitational on Friday, Dec. 9. In addition to the SCF boys wrestling, for the first time three girls participated in the girls' tournament. These three girls hope they are paving the way for the future of SCF girls' wrestling.

Both the boys and girls competed very tough last weekend. The boys tied for eighth out of 21 teams and the girls ended up 10th out of 12 teams.

Results from the Southern Valley Invitational are as follows:

120-pound Kaiden Schelling placed third. In round one, Schelling won by 1:27 fall over Connor Sutton from Sandhills/Thedford. In the quarterfinal round he won by 3:26 fall over Chase Hamilton from Southern Valley. Schelling then lost to Grant Haussermann of Franklin in the semifinal round by 7-1 decision. In the consolation semifinal, Schelling won by 9-1 major decision over Carter Horner from Loomis/Bertrand. He then won by no contest over Luke Harper from Sutherland in the third place match. Harper had already wrestled his five matches for the day.

126-pound Gage Helgoth fell to Kyler Carraher from Franklin by fall. He then lost to Wayne Lee from Arapahoe by fall.

145-pound Jack Bornhoft placed second. He won by fall in 1:46 over Luc Lopez from Axtell; defeated Eli Pistulka from Wilcox-Hildreth by fall in 1:47. In the semifinal round, Bornhoft won by fall in 1:37 over Brayden Wegrzyn from York. In the championship match, Bornhoft lost by fall to Luis Co from Chase County.

145-pound Caid Welch competed in the junior varsity bracket. He fell to Dravenn Nichelson from York and Jaret Neben from Hitchcock Countywon.

160-pound Kale Volkman lost by fall to Brooks Loosvelt from York and lost by fall to Karson Shuler from Hitchcock County.

182-pound Ryan Davis lost by decision, 3-4, to Nate Grilli from Southern Valley and lost by 14-9 decision to Alec Lounsbury from Red Cloud/Blue Hill.

100-pound Destanie Engle placed second at Southern Valley. She lost in round one to Carlie McKibbin from Bayard by fall. In round two, Destanie Engle won by fall in 4:50 over Teagan Holmes from Franklin. She won in round three by fall in 1:09 over Britney Huffman from Sedgwick County/Fleming.

110-pound Aliyah Engle took third place for the day. She lost to Alise Wait from Norton Community by fall in round one. She then won by fall in 3:31 over Adalynn Vrba from York. In round three, she wrestled Lorelei Granberry from Norton Community who won by decision, 10-8.

On Dec. 16 the boys' team is scheduled to travel to Wray to compete in the Bob Smith Invitational and the girls' team is set to travel to Sutherland, Neb. to compete in the Sutherland Invitational.
