Jan. 5, 1938

Hunters from all of Northeastern Colorado converged at Haxtun last Monday and took part in the most extensive rabbit drive ever held in the part of the state. Covering 225 square miles in the day's campaign, it was estimated that 7,000 rabbits were killed. Approximately 1,200 persons participated in the hunt sometime during the day.

A baby girl was born Monday to Mr. and Mrs. John E. Anderson at the family home southeast of town.

Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Radford were delightfully surprised Christmas Eve when they were presented with a daughter-in-law by their son, Harry Jr. At 7 o'clock in the evening of Dec. 23, Miss Lois M. Farr of Thermopolis, Wyo., and Harry Radford Jr. of the city, were united in marriage at Scottsbluff, Neb.

Jan. 7, 1953

The home of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Lohman was the scene of a pretty wedding Wednesday, Dec. 31, when their daughter Ruth was married to Howard Sloan, son of Ray Sloan of Pueblo. They will make their home on the farm in the Rockland community.


Fairfield News - A son, Thomas Gene, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Phillips at the Julesburg hospital New Year's Day. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Eyestone at the Holyoke Hospital Dec. 19, and has been named John Dell. The Eyestone family lives in the tenant house on the Arvid Anderson Farm.

Daily News – Miss Arlene Langdon cared for the Anderson produce creamery Wednesday in the absence of Mrs. Ruth Anderson.

Hospital News - Incubator baby Lucinda Klinzmann of Yuma was released Dec. 29.

Fleming News ­- Enjoying skiing on Monday at Lake Eldora were Scott, Barbara, Darlene and Arlene Wiebers, Ross Davidson and his sister Deaon Davidson, and Gary Boxbernger.

Fairfield News - The winning volleyball team was coached by Evan Michael, also a player. His players: Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Michael, Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Jeffers, Wayne Skold, Mrs. Evan Michael, Kathy Wacker and Lonna Jernigan.

Jan. 6, 1993

On Jan. 12, three new commissioners will take their oath of office. They are Jay Dean Kruger, Keith Sharpe and Jack Kennedy.

Marijuana facilities will soon be prohibited in Phillips County following a December 2012 decision by the county commissioners.


Ken and Cindy Pierce, Haxtun, announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Jessica Pierce to Weston Charles.

Obituaries: Jerome N. Stiner, 832 year resident of Haxtun, passed away on Dec. 26, 2012 at the age of 88 in his hometown of Bakersfield, Calif.

On Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, Benjamin "Ben" Cox earned diplomas from Texas Tech University and Wayland Baptist University. He was a dual-major and worked on a math degree from Wayland Baptist for several years before enrolling in the civil engineering program at Texas Tech. His undergraduate education will prep him to become an engineer - possibly for the department of transportation, as has always been his dream.
