The Fleming Wildcats competed in a short week of basketball action last week as winter weather postponed another contest. The Wildcats were scheduled to host Akron on Thursday, Jan. 19, but road conditions forced a postponement until Jan. 31.

Fleming was able to travel to Peetz to take on the Bulldogs on Friday night. Both teams entered the contest unranked by the Colorado High School Activities Association, but the victory for Fleming bumped them into the number 10 spot. Fleming now stands at 6-3 on the year; they hold a 2-0 record in the league with wins over Prairie and Peetz.

Fleming jumped to an early seven-point lead on Friday night against the Bulldogs, 17-10. They held Peetz to six points in the second quarter and put up 10 points of their own to hold a double-digit, 11-point lead at the half.

Peetz chipped away at four points of that lead, outscoring the Wildcats by four to open the second half, 16-12, but Fleming remained on top by 39-32.

The Wildcats came out hot in the final quarter making their best offensive showing of the game with 22 points. Fleming's defense also held strong giving up just five to take the 61-37 win.

Four Wildcat seniors put double digits on the scoreboard at Peetz for the night. Kolten Houser led the group with 17 points. He earned 16 points on two-point buckets and went one-for-three from the charity stripe.

Braylen Feather followed with 14 points. He made one three-pointer, four two's and went three-for-five from the free-throw line.

Nolan Japp added 12. He went two-for-two outside the three-point arc and tacked on the remaining six off two-point shots.

Blake Feather scored 10 points in the game. He found his off a pair of three-pointers and a pair of two-point shots.

Senior Harry Harms led the squad in rebounds. He brought down four offensive and seven defensive for 11 total boards. Houser and Japp followed with nine rebounds apiece.

Fleming is set for a busy week of court action this week with games against Merino on Friday, Briggsdale on Saturday and Akron on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Briggsdale marks the lone league contest of the week and the Falcons are the only team of the three currently ranked; they hold the number five spot in 1A. According to the schedule on MaxPreps, all three games are set to take place on Fleming's home court.
