EMILY ANDERSON, Lady Bulldog #11, take the ball up the court past the Lady Rams pressure in District basketball action in Akron last week.

The Lady Bulldogs are headed to Regionals. As the 25th ranked team in a 32 team bracket, Haxtun is set to travel to Fowler for a Friday night contest with the eighth ranked Grizzlies in first round of Regional basketball action.

Last week, the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Akron to take on the Lady Rams in round one of District basketball play. Haxtun suffered a first-round loss in Districts but Colorado High School Activities Association rankings qualify the Bulldogs to advance to Regionals as one of the top 32 teams in the State.

Haxtun put six points on the board in the first quarter, but trailed by five to the home team in the opening minutes of the contest. The Bulldogs added another eight in the second but remained behind at the half. A second half battle to gain a lead brought six points in the third and six in the fourth from the Bulldog team but despite several mid-game runs, Haxtun came up short, 46-26.

Two Lady Bulldogs registered nine points in the contest including junior Cassidy Goddard and sophomore Bobbi Starkebaum. Goddard earned her nine with four field goals and one free throw. Starkebaum connected with three two-point shots and three free throws.

Goddard led her team in rebounds, pulling down 10 against Akron. She brought down two on offense and eight on defense. Starkebaum pulled down three on offense and five on defense for a total of eight. Grace Gibson and Emily Anderson each tallied four. Goddard led in assists, with four, while Anderson registered two. Heily Avery nabbed two steals, the team high.

According to MaxPreps, the Fowler Grizzlies hold a 16-6 record overall with a 10-1 league record. The Grizzlies play in the combined 2A/3A Santa Fe League. Along their road to Regionals, the team took down Crowley County and Hoehne at Districts last week.

Should the Lady Bulldogs win their 5 p.m. match up in Fowler on Friday, they will advance to play at 1 p.m. on Saturday. That game will be against the winner of ninth ranked Wiggins and 24th ranked Center.
