Superintendent Beck reports on recent power outages in Fleming

The Fleming Town Council held their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 12. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Stefan Betley at 6:30 p.m. The following council members were present: Andrew Muller, Bill Langridge, Bonnie Jackson, Suzanne Wales and Alex Gapter. Cathy Castillo arrived at 6:44 p.m. Also present were Joelle and Daniel Gapter, Lewis Frank (left at 7:37 p.m.), Keith Beck (left at 7:07 p.m.) and Michelle Asfeld.

Additions/Corrections to the Agenda: Betley asked for additions or corrections to the agenda. Hearing none, it was moved and seconded to accept the agenda as printed and the motion passed unanimously.

Public Comment: No public comment.

Media Relations: J. Gapter talked with the Council about her efforts at continuing to update the website.

Consent Agenda: A motion was made and seconded to approve the Consent Agenda, the motion passed unanimously.

Maintenance Report: Beck provided the council with the specifics regarding the two power outages last week. Western Area Power Authority assured Beck that they had made the necessary repairs at the sub-station. The town maintenance crew will also be working on repairing/replacing streetlights. There is considerable work to be done trimming trees on the west perimeter of the cemetery. They will also be working on the streets at the Wild Horse Ridge Subdivision and adjusting the drainage on the street on the west side of football field.

Clerk’s Report: Asfeld reported the Town clean-up day is Friday, April 28. She updated the Council on the Wednesday hours. After a very brief discussion, Mayor Betley told Asfeld to go back to the regular hours, 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. She updated the Council on the progress of the Splash Pad. Asfeld also mentioned that the Town Hall needs an all-in-one printer/copier.

Treasurer’s Report: Frank presented the Treasurer’s Report. It was moved and seconded to approve the Treasurer’s Report. all voted and the motion passed unanimously.

Health and Safety: Beck reported that the fire hydrant at the CHS location will be ordered tomorrow.

Parks and Recreation: The Council is interested in receiving quotes from local contractors for a four foot poured sidewalk around the Splash Pad connecting that sidewalk to a poured five foot sidewalk to the restrooms.

Action Items:

Employee Policy: A motion was made and seconded to approve the Employee Policy update, all voted and the motion passed.

All-in-one Printer/Copier: After some discussion about printer/copier capabilities, a motion was made and seconded to allow Asfeld and Frank permission to purchase an all-in-one printer/copier.

Discussion Items:

The Safety Belt Policy draft was discussed and modified.

The Town Project Committee was tabled until the May meeting.

The Town Hall building was discussed briefly.

Upcoming Meetings: Council Meeting – May 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fleming Town Hall.

Adjournment: A motion was made and seconded to adjourn at 8:07 p.m., the motion passed.
