Good progress is being made on construction of the high school gymnasium at Haxtun and bricklayers are expected to complete their work by the end of the week.

May 13, 1953

Mrs. Gus Beckman and her son Everett, former Haxtun residents, both passed away at their homes in Denver following heart attacks. The mother's death was evidently caused from the shock of learning that her son, 48, had suffered a heart attack.

Lee Bamford of Wenatchee, Wash., is expected to arrive in Haxtun Wednesday for a visit with his son, Willard Bamford, and family and friends. Mrs. Bamford, who is visiting their daughter, Mary Ellen, in New York City, will join her husband here later in the week.

Paoli News - Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Byrkit and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Firme and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Verner Ham, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Ham, and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ham, were is Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Ham near Holyoke.

May 11, 1978

Leonard Hainley, Haxtun High School, principal and wrestling coach, submitted his resignation as wrestling coach to the Haxtun board of education at the regular meeting Monday. Jim Nickels of Holly was offered a contract as secondary special education and Title 1 instructor, with coaching duties of wrestling and assistant track.

Donald R. Reutter, a student in accounting at Colorado State University, was recently initiated into membership of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Reutter of Haxtun.

John and Hilda Rahe were presented with the VFW Citizen of the Year Award by Haxtun's Dave Harmon Post 8591. Pictured with them: Jim Ellis, Lyle Lundgren, Hank Scofield and Elmer Jacobs.

There will be no raises for teachers and administrators at Haxtun schools this year. Minimum salary, for a BA is $19,300. Maximum, for an MA plus 45 hours, is $23,300 to $30,500 (19 years). Nine contracts offered are to probationary teachers: Michele Bivins, Mike Conner, Dena Gerk, Doug Larson, Torri Lutz, Rebecca Roberts, Kathleen Schaefer, David Shafer and Amelia Worth. Non-probationary teachers offered contracts: Christine Brauer, John Chapdelaine, Darcy Garretson, Marilyn Garretson, Valerie Gillotte, Pat Hale, Pamela Harms, Stephen Herndon, Keith Lick, Ellie McCarty, Richard McDaniel, Cynthia Sharpe-Kaus, Richard Sumpter and Ann Yost. Contracts were also offered to Dr. Jack Pendar, superintendent, and Gina Miller, grade school principal.

New fertilizer department manager at Haxtun Co-op Association is Tim Kuehl. He was on duty last week, but is still looking for a house for himself and his family.

The Haxtun Bulldogs picked up two regular season wins last week. Victories over the Akron Rams gave the Bulldogs the number five spot heading into the District Tournament. Haxtun finished the regular season 8-9 overall, 8-8 in league play.


Fleming Lady Wildcat volleyball players Taylor King and Abby Kurtzer signed letters of intent to play volleyball at North Platte Community College in Nebraska on Tuesday in Fleming's community library. The two are set to graduate from Fleming in a couple weeks.
