Europe was plunged into its second world war this week, following a succession of events that started Friday, Sept. 1. With the opening of German hostilities against Poland last week in an attempt by Chancellor Adolf Hitler to return the free city of Danzig and the Polish corridor to the German Reich, intense fighting has occurred in the Polish state. The climax came Sunday when Great Britain and France, pledged to aid Poland in case of invasion, declared war against the German government.
