Miner earns State FCCLA office

Jeff Miner

Haxtun's Jeff Miner has been selected to serve as a Family, Career and Community Leaders of America State Officer for the coming school year. The soon to be junior has been chosen as Vice President of Membership.

To be considered for an FCCLA state office, candidates must submit an online application, resume and three letters of recommendation. Then in February, candidates come together in an online forum to give a two to three-minute introduction speech about themselves, the FCCLA creed by memorization and a one-minute speech where they use an object to relate their leadership style. At this time, candidates also take a test about the organization. All of this information is submitted to the State Adviser.

"This spring has been different as usually they then present their object speech at State conference," Haxtun High School FCCLA Advisor Holly Kelley said. "This year the candidates presented all of their speeches and recorded themselves to send to the State Adviser. Jeff met up with the entire group online to participate in a fishbowl activity that showcases their leadership skills in a group setting."

As Vice President of Membership, Jeff will provide leadership in planning and implementation of membership promotion development. He will be working across the State with fellow FCCLA members to increase membership.

"His expertise in technology and knowledge in computers and programs will also be so important for his position with Colorado State FCCLA," Kelley added.

Jeff is the son of John and Barbie Miner, Haxtun.
