Veteran's Service Officer seeks public input in compiling list

September 16, 2020

Each year the anniversary of the end of World War I marks the national holiday Veteran’s Day, celebrated on Nov. 11. For the upcoming holiday, Veteran’s Service Officer Steve Firme is asking for the public’s help to honor all those in Phillips County who have served in the United States armed forces.

Firme hopes to publish a complete list of living Veteran’s this upcoming Veteran’s Day and hopes the community will help make sure no names are left off.

On Memorial Day, Firme said, we honor those who have passed but on Veteran’s Day, the goal is to honor all those living who have served.

“Every Veteran’s service is honorable but every Veteran’s service is different,” Firme said. “By just listing names everyone becomes equal.” Firme said only the names of each Veteran will be published.

By submitting your name to the local Veteran’s Service Officer, Firme would like the community to know you are also giving permission to have your name published in local newspapers in honor of the upcoming holiday unless otherwise noted.

To provide names of local Veteran’s please contact Firme at [email protected], by voice or text at (970) 520-1510 or by mail to 325 West Strohm Street, Haxtun, CO 80731. If leaving a message, please spell out names.

If you are a local Veteran and have received a Quilt of Valor, Firme has your name from that list.

“This will be a work in progress and may not be 100 percent,” Firme reminds the community. “Please make sure to let me know of any omissions or changes.”
