Plans for a proposed new high school gymnasium in Haxtun were sent to Washington this week by the Phillips County High School committee. Application will be made to the Public Works Administration for aid in the project. Tentative plans are for a building 76 by 100 feet to be built north of the present high school building. The original plans and blueprints were drawn by James R. Birrell of Haxtun, a student in architecture.

Work was started Monday morning on Haxtun's new municipal swimming pool, with six men being employed in the first two days of the week in clearing off the site, laying stakes and building a tool house. The pool is being constructed as a WPA project, the third to get underway in Haxtun. Wednesday morning 17 laborers reported for work on the project and preliminary excavation work was started under the supervision of Theodore Sharpe, a local contractor and foreman of the pool construction.

A reduction of about 25 percent car production can be expected for the coming year, according to the AAA Automotive Club. The best estimate is that about 4,300,000 cars will be produced. While there appears to be no plan to limit car production, the national stockpiling program will drain away critical metals such as copper, zinc and aluminum with, perhaps, as much as 50 percent of the total steel production.
