Betty Dix

Betty Dix passed away at Regent Park in Holyoke on Monday, Nov. 30 at the age of 92.

Betty was born to parents Melvin and Hilda Sherwood on June 27, 1928 south of Paoli. She grew up on the family farm and attended Broadway School, a one-room country school south of Paoli, and Haxtun High School.

On Sept. 23, 1945, she married Jack Dix of Haxtun. The couple raised five children on the family farm southwest of Haxtun. Betty helped her husband operate the farm raising dryland wheat and cattle until they moved to Haxtun in 1985.

She was an active member of the Haxtun Berean Bible Church where she helped with the AWANA program and taught Sunday School.

Betty is survived by her children Charles and Margaret Dix, Auburn, Maine, Nancy and Don Skaggs, Ft. Collins, Douglas and Philomena Dix, Fleming, Jeanne and Dave McClain, Haxtun, and daughter-in-law Kathy Dix, Haxtun; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Jack; parents Melvin and Hilda; brothers Leo and Orval Sherwood; son Dan; and grandson Christopher Dix.
