DOCTOR Ben Stephenson, Haxtun Health Chief of Staff, was the first to get the vaccination in Haxtun. The vaccination was administered by Registered Nurse Val Wilson.

Haxtun Health was one of the first hospitals on the Eastern Plains to receive and administer the Phizer COVID 19 vaccine this past week. On Friday, Dec. 18, Haxtun Health Chief of Staff Dr. Ben Stephenson was the first to receive the COVID vaccine, followed by Dewane Pace, Haxtun Health Chief Executive Officer.

"We are so very thankful to receive and administer the COVID Vaccine to our team," Pace said. "We believe this is the first step in getting back to normal and are excited to begin that journey."

Haxtun Health is following the recommended guidelines on who to administer the vaccine to first. Although healthcare workers are on the top of the list, many in our community will qualify to receive a vaccine sooner than later. Haxtun Health is expected to receive the Moderna vaccine soon and encourages those interested in receiving the vaccine to call the Haxtun Health Clinic at (970) 774-6187 to get on a notification list.

The second wave of the virus has hit rural areas like Haxtun harder than the first wave. "In a small town, you tend to know most of your patients and when they come in sick, it's personal and emotionally difficult on the team. Here's to a better year in 2021 and the road back to normalcy," said Pace.
