Cella Garrett

Cella Mary Garrett passed away on Oct. 27, 2020 in Haxtun at the age of 97.

Cella was born on July 5, 1923 in Big Springs, Neb., to Floyd and Olive (Temple) Thrasher. She graduated from Big Springs High School at the age of 16.

During World War 2, Cella worked in an electronics manufacturing plant in Ogallala, Neb. and moved to Haxtun following her marriage to Merle Dean "Diz" Garrett on March 23, 1946 in St. Francis, Kan.

Cella worked at several locations in Haxtun including the Haxtun Department Store, Baker Grocery Store, Smith Hardware and the Haxtun Community Bank where she worked for nearly 30 years and retired as Head Clerk in 1996.

She was a member of Haxtun United Methodist Church. Cella was an excellent cook and loved to bake cakes and other baked goods. Her chocolate angel food cake was legendary, as were her apple, pecan and cherry pies.

She was a diligent exerciser who wore out more than one stationary bike and treadmill. She maintained her health and lived in her beloved home until a few months before her death. She loved her computer and kept up with current events and her family.

Cella is survived by her son Craig and wife Cindy, Littleton, and daughter Lonna Reed, Holyoke. She had nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was always interested in them and loved to spend time with them.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; her brother Donald Thrasher; sisters Grace Payne and Jane Little; and her son-in-law Kevin Reed.

A celebration of Cella's life will be held at a later date.

Baucke Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
