Fleming's Lady Wildcats dominated on the basketball court over the past week with a 50-point win over Stratton/Liberty and a huge victory over the then 11-1 Lady Cougars out of Sedgwick County.

The week opened on Friday night when the Lady Wildcats hosted the Lady Knighted Eagles from Stratton/Liberty. The Lady Knighted Eagles entered the contest at 5-6 on the season.

Fleming opened solid putting up 30 points in the first quarter while holding their opponent to zero. The advantage allowed for smooth sailing through the remainder of the contest. Scoring looked a little more even in the second with Fleming adding six to their already 30-point lead.

The Lady Wildcats would go on to outscore the Lady Knighted Eagles by another 14 throughout the second half and take a 60-10 home victory.

Sophomore Kally Kirkwood led the Lady Wildcats on the scoreboard with 14 points. She made four of six shots from outside the three-point arc and shot 100 percent in two-point field goals at one for one.

Her older sister Kendyl, who is in her senior season with the Lady Wildcats, followed on the scoreboard with 12. She earned an 86 percent field goal average making six of seven two-point buckets on the night. Kendyl led the group in rebounds with nine; three offensive and six defensive.

Freshman Madi Serrato tallied eight boards. She grabbed one offensive and seven defensive in the contest.

On Saturday afternoon, the Lady Wildcats hosted a top-ranked Lower Platte league Sedgwick County Lady Cougars. Sedg. Co. entered with just one loss, at the hands of the Holyoke Lady Dragons, on the year.

In the opening quarter, it was the Lady Cougars who came out on top offensively as they put up 18 points and gave up just 13 to the home team. Fleming would look to even things out in the second quarter when they scored 13 and allowed 11. The Lady Wildcats trailed by three the half, 29-26.

Fleming's defense held the Lady Cougars to single digits in both quarters of the second half - a feat that had only been done in four prior quarters all season, according to scores by quarter on MaxPreps.

The Lady Wildcats gave up just 11 points to the visiting team throughout the third and fourth quarters while the offense added 19 in the third and nine in the fourth giving them a 14-point lead at the final horn. The Lady Wildcats walked away with an impressive win over the Lady Cougars.

Kendyl Kirkwood led her team all-around for the night. The lone senior on the team scored 18 points while bringing down her season-high 21 rebounds in the game. She earned her 18 off eight two-point shots and went 100 percent from the charity stripe with two for two. Under the net, Kendyl grabbed 15 defensive boards and six offensive.

Junior Whitney Chintala followed offensively on the scoreboard, also hitting double digits for the night. She tallied 15 points off one three-pointer, five twos and two good shots from the free-throw line.

Chintala followed the elder Kirkwood in boards bringing down nine total split at one offensive and eight defensive.

Kally Kirkwood hit double digits in scoring with 11 points. She earned hers by way of three three-point shots and a two-pointer shooting 67 percent from the field for the night.

Junior Sam Pope shot 75 percent from the field. She made three of four shots for two points apiece.

The Lady Wildcats were set to host Flatirons Academy out of Westminister on Tuesday night. The 1A Lady Bison out of the 5280 league entered at 8-3 when they arrived in Fleming. Watch next week's edition of the Herald for details on that match up.

Later this week, Friday, March 5, Fleming is scheduled to travel to Lone Star where they'll meet up with the 6-3 Lady Longhorns in a non-conference showdown. Lone Star is undefeated in their YWKC league this year. Contests are set to start at 4 p.m. that day.

On Saturday, the Lady Wildcats are slated to take their home court for the final time this regular season against the Akron Lady Rams. Akron held a 5-6 overall record as of press time with a 3-5 Lower Platte league record. Games that afternoon in Fleming are set for 2 p.m.
